Question about PfaFF Hobby 4260

Open Question

I have a Pfaff hobby lock 776 that I bought at a garage sale. It looked like it had never been used. It sometimes sews okay and sometimes not at all. It appears that the left needle tension is messed up - either too tight or too lose and turning the dial doesn't have an effect. Also the needle housing sometimes rotates. I don't think it is supposed to do that.

SOURCE: While I was sewing the machine stopped properly

Have you changed your needle? If so do a visual check on the bobbin case area.

-With the bobbin door open, so you can see the bobbin case, turn the hand wheel towards you and you should see the needle come down and the top thread catch and loop around the bobbin thread and pull both to the top.

-If if is not, it is going to be your hook to needle timing or clearance.

When the needle is on the up movement, the hook should pass right above the eye of the needle.

Fabric does not move forward

Either the presser foot does not have enough pressure on it or it is not lowering all the way to the fabric.
Remove the fabric.lower the presser foot.If the presser foot has no or little pressure look for the pressure regulator on top the machine or on the left side and see if you can make it tighter. Not all machines have this.Look to see if there is space between the foot and the teeth when you turn the handwheel. If there is space then the machine needs an adjustment.

Pfaff Hobbylock 776

The best I can say is to change all your threads to different colors and get light colored material. Start with tenstion for all set to N - normal and experiment from there. Change one thread's tension at a time, sew a long strip and check out both sides and adjust as needed. Remember to start with new serger needles and a oiled machine. I'm not an expert - I just have had a serger for 15 years.
