R03 is NOT an error message. It indicates the number of remaining pictures that can be stored in the camera's built-in high speed memory buffer (before the camera will need to send them to the memory card). Each successive picture taken rapidly will decrease this r03 number by 1. Eventually the r01 will be on screen, and after that picture is taken, the camera will not shoot until the memory buffer has been transferred. This may take a few seconds, and then shooting can continue again.

I'm getting a r03 error message on my D80. I shoot raw and tethered to my computer with Camera Control Pro. This is the first time I've had this problem in the 3 years I've had this camera. I've been...

Hi,
These are the different things I would try to resolve this error.
Remove the lens and re-attach it.
Remove the battery and re-attach it.
Change shooting modes try any of them, full, auto, or jpeg but not raw
Reset camera to factory defaults
Replace/format CF card.
You don't have to necessarily try them in that order. I would try formatting the card first.
If you need further assistance let me know.
Thank you,

Hi,

This is not an error, this is telling you how many more continuous shots you can take before the buffer fills up and you have to wait a while for it to empty.
Take a few quick shots and you will see it go down.
It means R(emaining) shots.

I used to worry about this.

Hope this helps.

Error message r07 on D80

Hi,

his isn't an error message. R04 or R07 or R[any number] refers to the number of shots you can take before you're camera's internal memory buffer is full.

As you're taking pictures, you're camera is writing to your memory card. When you are taking burst photographs, all the other photos you've just taken are "waiting in line" to get written to your card. If your buffer is full, the camera will not let you take another shot until it's finished writing the photo to the card.

Your camera's ability to write to the memory card is only as fast as the memory card itself as well as the quality of the photos (RAW vs. JPEG).

Sports photographers usually shoot in JPEG because they are taking a lot of shots relatively quickly and if their camera freezes then they can lose a shot.

the R means remaining, so R03 three shots remaining/left before the buffer is full.
Switching off the NR high iso and long exposure. buying a 166x card or faster will help but you won't see it on the counter.
If you do the above and switch to jpeg only it goes up.
you won't do this but, the above and quality to basic and small gives R51.
But if you shoot raw its R06 at best.

Any further help, let me know.

Exposure/shutter release

its the memory buffer. the booklet says that the "r" means remaining. i think the blinking is just the camera saving the pics to the memory card. i think the memory buffer is full and you have to wait for it to finish saving. if you want to be able to take more continuous pics i think you can turn down the quality and it will take more. hope this helps

Nikon d100 error code r03

If you have a "r03" display, then you need to go into your CSM Menu, and scroll down to CSM #4, and turn LONG EXP. NR to "OFF". When you are in Noise Reduction Mode, your D100 buffer is literally cut in half.
