Question about Maytag Neptune MDG5500AW Gas Dryer

1 Answer

I have a Maytag Neptune gas dryer that is approx 8 yrs old and has worked great as far as drying time. The gas will now light and stay on for 15 seconds and then shut off, in 2 or 3 minutes it will light again and stay on for about 5 seconds before shutting off. I'm thinking it could be a sensor but don't know where to start first. Someone mentioned a gas leak in the hose. Any Suggestions?

To me it sounds like your venting going out side,if it doesn;t get a clear flow it will come on and off the thermastate inside sencing to much heat.try unpluging the vent then try it if it stays on then you know your answer

Hi, sounds like a plugged vent. Pull the dryer out from the wall and disconnect the vent.Clean out any lint and make sure you have good airflow to the outside.

Neptune won't dry clothes -

I would replace the solenoids. The gas valve is not fully opening. The glow bar may be failing but the coils on the valve are in need of replacing..

I have a Neptune Gas Dryer MDG300AW and the flame goes out.

Well, first of all, the flame is not supposed to be continuous... it cycles on and off during the dry cycle because it staying on would incinerate your clothing. However, there are magnetic coils that do often go bad and cause the valve to stop opening after the beginning of the cycle... so you get a flame in the beginning, but if you were to sit there for 5 minutes with the dryer running, you would find that the flame stopped lighting completely.

They are pretty easy to replace... you will have to unscrew the little plastic pieces from the inside edge of the door, and unscrew the hinges and remove the door, then pull the front panel off (pull at the top).

Of course... UNPLUG before opening any appliance.

here's a picture of what you are looking for... they are completely outside the gas line, so changing them is very simple and doesn't require any handling of the gas. they are held on with a small metal plate.

Maytag Neptune gas dryer sense dry time at 99, little or no heat

If this is a gas dryer, I'd suggest an inspection by the gas company or qualified technician. If the jets aren't firing correctly, you are wasting gas and possibly creating a hazard.
