Log on screen freeze-up

The laptop will boot to the log on screen, but I cannot type in my password because the keyboard is frozen also. While booting the Alt F10 does not work either because of the keyboard is frozen. It won't read my back-up disks either and the USB isn't recognized.Question... If I bought the whole new Vista program and tried to load it, will its' disks be recognized?

If it is locking up because of corupt software then booting from a cd should allow you to reload a new os. But this sounds like a harware issue. If you install Visat on anything make sure it can handle it first. Vista take a monster machine minimun requirements are just that at min requiremnts it runs crippled.

The most common way that we know on how to reset or clear the BIOS password is to physically remove the power from the computer by disconnecting the power plug and then removing the Cmos battery for 30 minutes from the motherboard. Another way is to reset the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself. Both of the 2 methods mentioned works because most motherboards use a battery to sustain the BIOS/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip. So by cutting off cmos the battery power, the BIOS/CMOS settings will be erased.
cmos battery Under the keyboard or bottom of laptop - If you are working on a laptop computer the location of the dipswitch (almost never a jumper) can be under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop in a compartment such as the memory compartment. Can't access laptop computer in safe mode, keyboard freeze up

Try booting your system from a LIVE cd like linux, a verson of Hiren's tools, or the UBCD (ultimate boot disc for windows). If your keyboard still freezes with the alternate OS, you may have a hardware malfunction.
