1. Try the system on AC alone with the battery removed. See if you have any power indications. Also check if the AC adapter has an LED on it, does the LED come on with the adapter plugged in but not connected to the system? If it does, does it go out when you connec the system?

2. On battery only, do you have any power indication? LEDs come on, and go off immediately?

3. You can go to a computer repair shop (BestBuy etc) and see if they have an AC adapter you can try. If not, you can try a new AC adapter 1st as it is the cheapest part to replace.

Florida Bob,

Battery is part of the power/charging circuit. As you have found it needs to be in place; kaput or not.

Believe your problem to be Power MOSFET's.

HP compaq 6735s Shuts facing a very weird problem concerning its power. I have left my laptop charging without use for 3-4 days, today I came back home and wanted to use my laptop, I turned it on and...

Looks like your battery is having a problem. Remove the battery and replace after a couple of hours. If problem remains replace the battery with another to test, if this works, then the problem is with the adapter unit. Get a new one.

Laptop shuting down and beeping

Forget about calling HP. Unless you recently purchased it, the warranty is already out. There's a known motherboard problem that HP will warranty ONLY if it's a few months old. Check their website or call if you have half a day to waste. Sorry for being negative, but in reality, there's not much hope.

Here's a "fun option" that has worked for some:
1. Power down the laptop.
2. Unplug the AC cord.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Plug the AC cord in again.
5. Push and hold the power on button for 30-40 seconds.
6. IF it boots up, install the battery and you're good to go.

They say this procedure removes static electricity. Actually, it's a sign of the motherboard going out. Days are numbered. Back up all data files when/if you can.

HP dv7 simply stopped turning on. worked great

What you would want to try is to remove the battery and see if pluging in the power cord will power the laptop alone. All laptops have this capability and this shouldnt be an issue.

But by testing this and seeing if it DOESN'T work then that means there could be one of two things. Your AC power adapter is defective and should be replaced with one that is compatible with your system or that your connection jack is either loose on the inside or broken completely.

However I would stick with trying the cord first before trying to resoder the joint inside the system. I'd leave that to a pro, going back to the battery if you leave it out for a day that should give it plenty of time to discharge any energy it may have in it and you can plug it back into the laptop to try and charge it again either with the same AC power adapter or a new one. If the battery wont hold a charge and you know it isn't because the jack is loose or the AC power adapter isnt defective then you now know you need to replace the battery. You can google compatible batteries and power adapters online or search specific places like Newegg.com or Amazon.

Hope this gives you a better understanding of what may need to be done to fix this!!

Hp pavilion dv6775us will not power up.

These are the reasons why your pc wont switch on

1. Defective power adapter
2. Defective Processor
3. Defective Motherboard
Note: If you replaced your motherboard check the specs on the previous motherboard it should be the same part number or a replacement part number.

You can purchase your motherboard to HP System Board HP Motherboard

Have you tried another power cord? If you try another power cord, and it still does the same thing, then I think your laptop is having a power problem. You need to take is to a technician to fix the problem for you.

Best wishes.

Hp compaq nx7400 - battery died and power cord will not turn comp

Do you have another power cord to check? Most places like bestbuy is willing to let you test a universal power cord for your type of laptop before you buy. Usually in your case, the power cord or connector has gone bad. If you test the laptop at the store and it doesnt work then its your connector but if it works. you could consider buying that power cord.

Not turning on

take the batt out the sys. then put the charger. wait 3 min after that turn your sys on.
without the batt. if it turn on. your batt is damaged. if it dont turn on without the batt and
just the power cord is there. then your power suply node is broken or just no good.
if the sys goes on wait 11 min must 11 min exact. them put the batt on it and take the
power cord off. if sys stays on. your ok.
