Unable to locate WEP key. Adding device to wireless network. Using WHR HP G54 model

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

I have a Belkin play N 600 Router, my newer Toshiba, and my Apple, and a Dell can connect to this unit, however our HP Windows XP will not connect to this unit. I have tried to follow the direction given...

Your other computers must be connecting to the Belkin using WEP encryption if the Belkin does not support WPA encryption.
Therefore you need to configure the wireless card in the HP with the Belkin's WEP encryption key.

I set the router from wap security to wep and i cant connect to it now.

The WEP encryption key is in the router's wireless settings and changing this encryption will affect your wireless connection.
You must also configure the computer's wireless card settings with this WEP encryption otherwise the wireless router will not allow the computer to connect to the wireless router.
I suggest you use WPA or WPA2 encryption, this is a later and stronger encryption method than WEP encryption.

Unable to find WEP Key

The WEP encryption key (network key) is in your wireless router, without this key the wireless router won't allow the computer or laptop to connect to this wireless router.
I recommend you use WPA or WPA2 encryption, it is much stronger than WEP.
The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer or laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.

Where is the wep key

The WEP key is a encryption key code, it is configured in the wireless settings on the wireless router. This WEP key is then used to configure the wireless card in the laptop/computer to allow the laptop/computer to connect to the wireless router and Internet.
WPA and WPA2 is the latest encryption method and is much stronger than the older WEP. I suggest you use the latest encryption method.

Belkin 54 encryption

1. Log into your Wireless Router or Access Point.
Open your web browser and type in the IP address of the Wireless
Router or Access Point. (The Router’s default is 192.168.2.1, the
Access Point’s default is 192.168.2.254.) Log into your Router by
clicking on the “Login” button in the top, right-hand corner of the
screen. You will be asked to enter your password. If you never set
a password, leave the password field blank and click “Submit”.
Click the “Wireless” tab on the left of your screen. Select
the “Encryption” or “Security” tab to get to the security
settings page.
2. Select “128-bit WEP” from the drop-down menu.
3. After selecting your WEP encryption mode, you can type in
your hex WEP key manually, or you can type in a passphrase
in the “Passphrase” field and click “Generate” to create a WEP
key from the passphrase. Click “Apply Changes” to finish. You
must now set all of your clients to match these settings. A hex
(hexadecimal) key is a combination of numbers and letters from
A—F and 0—9. For 128-bit WEP, you need to enter 26 hex keys.
For example:
C3 03 0F AF 4B B2 C3 D4 4B C3 D4 E7 E4 = 128-bit key
4. Click “Apply Changes” to finish. Encryption in the Wireless
Router is now set. Each of your computers on your wireless
network will now need to be configured with the same
security settings.

Connect to your router via a network cable and type http:\\\192.168.1.1 in the address bar of explorer, log into the router, name: admin password: either 0000 or 1234.

Goto Wireless, the security and look for WEP key or WPA key.

It usually (if autgenerated) it would be some thing like o3fg5772ai82nn4

You could also check to see if the key is located under the router on a sticker or something...
