Question about Acer Aspire 5102WLMi PC Notebook

Fried the motherboard

I have an Acer Aspire 5102WLMi notebook.
Back in February of this year I shorted out the USB port because of static electricity as I was about to plug in the power cord.
I lost the functionality of all the USB ports, then after about a month the screen went blank and that was it!

I removed the hard drive and tested it and all my data was still intact!

I called Acer support, they said I had blown the motherboard.
Ironically, I had a similar problem exactly 1yr ago also in February.

I sent the laptop in, thery replaced the MB under warranty and it was perfect!
This time they would not do anything because the warranty was over!

I fixed many things both mechanical and electrical, do you have the installation procedures for Acer laptops, and can you recommend a source for parts?

Thank you!

Glen

I can`t start acer aspire 5102wlmi .What do I need?

Start by finding if it's a hardware or software problem by trying to go in the BIOS - if you can't then it's hardware problem. In that case check the battery first, followed by the memory and finally try to go into the BIOS without the hard disk. If even after all that the problem is not solved then it's in the motherboard or the processor - in both cases replacing them will be an expensive job for a professional.

Does Acer 5102WLMi support booting up from usb?

Yes all modern PC's will support booting from removable media, such as a Flash Drive. As long as it's formatted to boot, it will. I have included a helpful link. http://www.bootdisk.com/pendrive.htm

How long have you owned the notebook? This sounds hardware related. If so then the touch pad would have to be replaced.

HP Printer Usb port in my Acer Laptop , shortcircuits my house

hello

Try using external USB HUB (POWERED) Adapter. It might fix this issue.
Use an other USB cable and see.
If the problem still exist do not plug in the printer again, you may damage your USB port or even burn your laptop motherboard.
hope this helped

All USB ports not working

Sounds like a shorted out board. If you use a faulty device.. these can EASILY short out the USB controllers on the motherboard.

Alternative is to purchase a "PCMCIA USB expansion card" till you can replace the motherboard.

best wishes.

Acer Aspire 5102WLMi,Mouse&Keyboard&USB is gone :( Hi, My Laptop had a problems with booting (didn't recognize the hard drive) but after many restarts it was booting pretty well; However sometimes when I am working on Windows XP the hard drive was acting like suddenly disconnected, it was resulting disk write errors or blue screen; It was not so bad,but sometimes it was happening. Later, after a Blue Screen, it booted but the keyboard and the trackpad was not working; The USB ports also weren't working since I've connected external USB keyboard and mouse but they did not respond either. After I noticed that the keyboard don't work at all since I can't enther the BIOS configuration; It continued to boot SOMETIMES but the keyboard worked only for few seconds that I've been able to enter the BIOS(also only SOMETIMES). Since my warranty is over, I gave it to a repair shop and they told me that the ATI chipset is gone and they don't have any to replace it; I find it on eBay and I hope it will arrive tomorrow. However I noticed another strange thing: if I hit the laptops case in certain place(right to the trackpad) the laptop power off;It also power off if it is rised up quickly enough. Because of my curiosity I disassembled the laptop to see if there is anything that could cause a such problem I noticed that the South Bridge chipset is heating enough to burn my hand in only 2-3 seconds and don't have anything to cool it; Could this be a symptome of a problem with the south bridge? If you have any ideas or suggestions on the problem please write;
