BATTERY LIGHT CAM ON AND OFF FOR ABOUT 1 -2 WEEKS, NOW WHEN I TURN ON BLACK/BLANK SCREEN ANY IDEAS?

I also have the same problem. Had computer going on 3 years and now blank screen. Called Dell and before they would help me they needed $39 for troubleshooting call. After they determine it could be LCD they gave me number for repair and was told it would be $498 to replace lcd or motherboard. It they found it was neither one then they would refund to me $299 and keep $199 for shipping , troubleshooting, etc. very nice of them. I asked can't it be reduced, was put on hold and told the would fix it for $398 plus the initial $39 for their troubleshooting. Might have to pay them the rip off fees since I can't afford a new laptop.

My screen went black, and now is totally black, but an external monitor is working perfectly. What are some diagnostics to check hardware and software components.

This is a long shot.. But nothings been changed with the screen saver?? or the pc's probably got a power saver function.. I'm wondering if it's set at a very short time period..?? A test you could do, to see if it's operating system independant, is to boot off another disk, Eg a Linux disk like Knoppix or one of the others, so you prove it's not O/S related.. Also try an external monitor.. The PC will have an external monitor port on the back or side of the notebook.. Try plugging in an external monitor to test.. Let us know the results.. Good Luck. My best guess is that it's the screen or the screen sensor try playing with the angle of the screen. If it displays at a particular angle its the sensor if not its the screen, or motherboard. Either way if you pay Dell to fix it, it's like buying a new laptop.

Do this. On a bland spot on your screen right click. Left click on the item "screen resolution". On the next screen click on "orientation" and select landscape. It should return your screen to normal.

The screen goes blank after booting i can get to safe mode then nothing bought a new battery nothing

Simple test: boot from a Linux Live-Cd like
http://www.mandriva.com/en/downloads/one/
If everything works just fine with it then you have a corrupted driver that has completely messed up Windows - the only thing left is to use Mandriva to recover your files then reinstall.
If it behaves the same then it's a hardware problem on the motherboard, the video chip is failing and the entire motherboard will have to be replaced. It will be cheaper to buy a good second-hand laptop than to fix this one.

Starts up then the screen goes blank

you need to give us additional details on the problem. to attempt to offer a suggestion, if you see display when system is starting and goes blank only after it goes to Windows, most likely, this is video driver related. attempt to boot to last working configuration. Restart, press F8, then select last known-good configuration and then Enter. You can also try to boot in safe mode, then uninstall and reinstall your video driver. Another thing you can try is to system restore Windows to a previous working state. Hope these helps

My Dell Inspiron 6000 (which I think I bought in

Have you tried this:
1. After removing the battery
2. Press and hold the power button for at least 10 sec.
3. Put back the battery
4. Turn it on

if this doesnt work, there could be a problem with your operating system. Try accessing safe mode if you can login .TAP F8 continously on the dell logo screen, and it will open advance boot options. (Just select safe mode) If safe mode boots properly try running system restore to restore it back to the previous date where your computer is still booting to windows. Hope this helps

My computer will not load up

Likely a hard drive failure. With system off, hold the Fn Key and press the power button, this should launch diagnostics If the diags fail on the hard drive then you have a confirmed failure. If the diags don't run, then try booting to the resource CD to run them.

The screen cable is most likely damaged. Try connecting an external monitor. If it works, you need to take the computer to a repair center to have the cable changed.

Hi ,

1. You can check the display on external monitor>If the display is blank on external monitor also, its pretty clear that there is an issue with system board

2. If the Exernal monitor comes up fine, it will be an issue with the display of the laptop, you can cross check the issue by booting the computer to BIOS, IF you get same response on BIOS as well. Its an issue with the Display itself you can replace the display panel.

Hopefully, its covered under warranty ;)

Dell Inspiron 6000: No Boot Up after BIOS loads

You can download a small program called memtest 86 which is an ISO for creating a bootable cd that will test the ram. You can get it from: http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

Also the HD may be the problem even if the BIOS can see it. Pull the HD and try booting from the xp disk again.

Hope this helps
