Question about 2wire 2700HG-B Router (2700HGB)
I bought the 2wire 2nd-hand thinking it would solve my problems with the Broadxent 8012-V modem supplied by my ATT DSL service and my Apple Airport Express router. I can connect to one computer using an ethernet cable, but if I switch to wireless it immediately sends me to SBCglobal for registration via my Safari browser. I'm not a customer of SBCglobal, but of ATT/covad. Can the 2wire be reconfigured to work wirelessly? ATT tech support is no help.

Nowadays E-mail is the efficient tool of communication and it also invites unauthorized access to hacking and other suspicious activities. Actually, a 2wire tech support guy (480) 567-7021 helped me set up my network in ten minutes after my ISP, AT&T/Covad in India, couldn't. I did essentially what the previous poster suggested, but had to get to the right tech support to learn how. AT&T/Bellsouth and AT&T/Covad are two branches of the same conglomerate that evidently don't talk to each other.

When I purchased the same router on Amazon I did my best to set it up on my own, but you need the correct IP information you can only get from your customer support at AT&T. I'm using this router with an old Airport card in an 2003 iBook and a 2007 iMac (built in Airport express card). The set-up was all done wirelessly, with bellsouth (AT&T) customer service instructing me over the phone, the process took about 15 minutes.
My suggestion is to call AT&T and speak with someone who knows what their doing, and they do use the SBC global page to set up the unit, starting with http://192.168.1.254/ for the system summary, from there you can set up your password etc...

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
