You will need a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse because u will no longer need to physically access your laptop. Make sure your tv input selection is correct. For example, hdmi 1, computer, vga, and etc.

Im running a external MONITOR. How can keep windows running when I shut the lid to my laptop? thanks

Windows XP:

By default, all laptops either go on standby or turn off to save precious battery, but you can override these rules from the Power Options (XP) in your control panel (Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power Options) and click on Advanced Tab and override the settings according to your preference.

I prefer "Do nothing" while closing the lid. Although this is real simple, few of us might not know it. I

While at home I plug a wide screen monitor into my Dell studio 1737 Laptop. As long as I keep my lid open the icons and print on my monitor are the right size. When I close the lid, icons and prints get...

You appear to be cloning your internal LCD and as long as it is active, the resolution setting for the LCD is also controlling the resolution of the external monitor. When the LCD is closed, then the default resolution of the external monitor is being used by Windows 7 (It apparently has autodetected the size of the monitor and knows the Highest optimal resolution it will display.) The higher the resolution, then smaller the icons.
To resolve, go to display properties and check the resolution of the internal LCD and then set the External display to the lower resolution.
You should be able to wake the system with an external keyboard, by pressing the spacebar, if the system is sleeping

Computer re-starts when i want it to shut down or sleep

You should check to see if there is a setting time where the computer installs updates, because the computer may be updating at a certain time and then restarts to finish the update. Check the setting to you might also have the computer restart every so often. hope that this helps.

HP Pavillion laptop sleeping

There is another setting in the power options and it is above the sleep settings. It has to do with closing the lid. Click on that listing and choose "Do Nothing" as the choice, hit apply and ok. I do not believe there are any settings in the bios that deal with the sleeping of the system or components.

When my computer goes into sleep mode it freezes after 5 seconds

There are a lot of systems out there having trouble with the sleep and hibernation programs in windows. The first thing I would do if I wanted to keep the sleep and hibernation programs in place would be to update the BIOS file on the system. I for one am a believe the computer in turning off the sleep and hibernation. They have caused more corrupt windows installations than I care to remember or work on again. If you want to try turning these off for a while and see how the computer reacts, go to the control panel > power option > scroll through the settings and change the way the computer sleeps and hibernates. Also change the setting for what happens when the lid is closed. Change it to "Do Nothing" this will correct a case of the computer not waking up from somply closing the lid. The lcd will automatically turn off when you close the lid and turn back on when you open it...you don't need the computer going to sleep simply because you close the lid for second.

I am unable to unhibernate

Power down the computer and power back up. Lets just shut hibernation off...you can always just have the computer sleep...it is much better on the system anyway.

Shutting Down Hibernation

Go to the control panel > Power Options > Hibernation tab > uncheck hibernate…this way you save a lot of disc space and don’t have to go through all the intermittent hibernation problems that occur. After you uncheck hibernation, you can go to the other power options and change how the computer reacts to the lid being closed, when it sleeps and for how long before sleep kicks in. Make sure to change the setting for what happens when lid closes to “do nothing” this will keep the laptop alive even though you close the lid to move it, etc.

Where is the Sleep Button to put D-I'n-1000 into hibernation

There is no SLEEP BUTTON per se on and Inspiron 1000 system.

Enabling Hibernate is easy enough though. Go to Control Panel, POWER OPTIONS. In the power options window, click the hibernate tab and ensure the ENABLE HIBERNATION checkbox is checked., then click the ADVANCED TAB. Look for the "When I close the lid of my computer option and select HIBERNATE.

Since that system doesn't have a SLEEP BUTTON, that option may be listed, but is of no use.
