I've been struggling with this issue as well. I type really fast so I thought i was inadvertantly hitting the touchpad and moving the cursor. Maybe, maybe not. But today I discovered that changing one of the dafault settings for the touchpad has eliminating the jumping cursor trouble and I can type fast again without constantly checking my screen to see which line I'm actually typing in.
Here's what I did: Go to the control panel and the mouse and click on the icon for the touchpad and uncheck the touchpad setting "tap to click"
I also put my speed and sensitivity about in the mid-range. (Another suggestion that didn't work was to make my touchpad less sensitive).

They sell replacement keyboards for this model on Ebay. However, from personal experience with another Dell model - sometimes the connecting cord gets pinched, and some keys go dead. On my laptop, grip it the wrong way and keys go dead. Grip it another way, and they work again. But opening it up and fastening the keyboard again, then screwing it back together also might work.
But whatever you do, check this page:
It has instructions for fixing a lot of problems on Dells, including replacing the keyboard on this one, and also replacing single keys.

Most likely you have your numlock key turned on by mistake. Look on your computer and see if there is a light with a padlock and a number in the padlock. It is probably lit up. Now look for a key on your keyboard called "numlock" and press the key once. See if the light goes off. When you have the numlock key on some of the letter keys will work as numbers like a calculator. When you turn it off the keys are back to letters.
