Problems with replacing NEC projector lamp

After replacing an NEC projector's lamp with new one, when I turn it on, the Power and Status lights blink green for maybe a minute, and the lamp light blinks red, then it shuts itself back down. I believe I have replaced lamp as directed and reconnecting projector the way it was before. But it won't work with the new lamp
