Question about Elna 2005 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

I can hear the engine revving, yet the needle is not moving up and down at all. Is there something wrong with the engine itself, if so can it be fixed by me? I was sewing with it just before, the needle broke, i replaced it and there was no sign of a broken needle blocking the engine or any other part.

It may be that your wheel has been disconnected. Did you wind a bobbin? The wheel on the right of the machine should be pulled out to wind a bobbin and then remember to push it firmly back into place

All lights blink constant

That's an indicator that something is wrong with the machine, but it's usually user fixable. I'm going to assume that that happens when you attach the embroidery unit and turn the machine on. It indicates that for whatever reason, your machine cannot move the hoop to its default position. That could be because you have the small hoop attached (turn it on with NO hoops), the needle is not in its HIGHEST position, or the unit itself is not making a complete connection. Make sure that it is on solid level surface, raise the needle to its highest position (ALWAYS turn the wheel towards you), make sure the unit is making solid contact, and remove all hoops, and then try turning it on.

The needle moves up and down and the presser foot is lowered (and attached properly) but the fabric is not being pulled through.

Yes, there definitely could be something wrong, but there are some things you should check. Most machines are capable of raising and lowering the feed dogs; yours might be fully or partially lowered, so that while it moves, it's not far enough up to the surface to move the fabric. Using the lever or dial, LOWER it all the way, then RAISE it all the way, but you're not finished. It will still not raise until you turn the hand wheel TOWARDS you (ALWAYS towards you on every machine) at least one and possibly two revolutions. You'll then SEE and most likely HEAR it click up. I know someone who got a steal on a Brother marked defective because the feed dogs wouldn't raise, so she brought it home, turned the hand wheel two revolutions, and viola! The feed dogs raised!

White 1099 sewing machine. Needle and handwheel do not move after filling bobbin. I recall hearing something fall when I disengaged the wheel. How do I repair it? What did I do wrong?) (Where can I...

I don't know this make but if it is NOT electronic you could try using a magnet to remove whatever fell in. Or turn it upside down and shake it out. Sounds like it is stuck in the mechanism.

Bobbin keeps jamming while I am sewing

Check these two things first.. Pull the bobbin out and look at how it is wound. Is it evenly wound across the bobbin ? Is the bobbin moving with the thread coming out the right way? ie not put in the bobbin casing backwards.

Try a different bobbin to make sure it is not the above problems. If it sews ok then there's something with the way the bobbin is wound or inserted. Also make sure when you put the bobbin back in the machine you feel/hear it click into place.

If that's ok then check your needle to see if it is bent, or in wrong or the wrong type of needle for the machine (tho most new machines all can use regular needles...older machines sometimes required specific needles made for that brand). Try changing needles.
