Question about Kenwood Food Mixers

Open Question

I have got an old Kenwood chef, its body is white with a blue blender cover. The motor appears to be between 500 to 600 watts. I do not know its model & year of manufacture. The speed control is only a 0.1 Micro farad capacitor and a 20 watt resistor with the mecanical assembly for speed control. It does not have a tyristor control. The connections for the the capacitor & resistor has been disconnected by a mechanic. I would like to have the connection details. Anthony Correa

Can't refer you to a dealer there but it is likely that only the motor's brushes need to be replaced. This isn't a difficult DIY job and the brushes shouldn't cost more than ~ $20 US.
You could also remove the housing covering the motor and see if the commutator is visible. This is a segmented copper cylinder and shouldn't be completely blackened although some signs of black is normal. The brushes ride on this cylinder and if the brushes have become too short, it can cause arcing and smoke. Clean that surface before installing new brushes and they too may smoke and cause rough running until they are worn in. The brushes can be had many places so you will have to choose one convenient to you:

Kenwood Chef A701A Blender needs new shaft seal

It uses a different thread = turn clockwise to undo - not the normal turn ccw to undo and the nut is attached to the 2 blades.

Smoking Kenwood Chef A901

I have just had the exact sme problem.
It is caused by a 1 watt resistor on the board.
You will also find that very possibly the large capacitor, a 0.1uF, has aso burnt out. This capacitor would have cracked open down the side and that is where the smoke came from.
parts can be replaced by a repair man and possibly a better solution is to have the board replaced, They are availiable still.

Kenwood 500 watts

It may be the motor but it is most likely a burnt out capacitor, these can be replaced for around £30. It is not a DIY job unless you know a qualified electrician as soldering is involved. Best to take it in for repair if you think it is worth it.
