1 Answer

I have a Akai 32" lct3285ta tv. The video went bad. I had another one with the screen was broken, where I had previously used the power supply. I open it and replaced the power on the one in question. I was going place lcd screen in the the broken craked tv when the computer thin ribbon cable dettached. The screen when power on is multi colred then turns green. Vertical line appear on the screen matching the detached thin ribbon cable. How can it be reattached. It was not solder but appears tacked on the ends and press on the tv lead by a a white glaze. I tried cold solder with sliver conductive epoxy, but it did not work. Help, Thanks Dwight,

    Hello again,

This may be the solution, but it appaers I did not explain this thoroughly. The thin ribbon cable has a computer board attached to it which has printed on it DV2,SVT, etc. The board is attached to the ribbon cable and screws in to the inner fram and holds the lcd sreen to the fram. The ribbon cable has no slots and appears to have been tacked. This thin ribbon cable appears to be plastic or type and cannot be soldered with heat and the ends match the the tv contacts and tact on and was held together by a glaze or putty. Soldering is impossible, tthat is why I tried silver conductivre eposy.

This cable is an interference fit cable, and slots, pushes into a header female clip on the PCB. Cold solder will not work, as you found out. You really need to obtain another cable, and detach it from the other end, and replace it in total.
If that's not possible, then your only other way, would be to obtain some fine wire, a very low power soldering iron, a fibreglass pencil, 7 fine solder. Now you would need to identify, where it connects to, and with very fine wire, run a wire from each, connection on the ribbon cable, and solder it to the corresponding place on the PCB. You use the fiberglass pencil to clean off any coating to expose a solderable surface, on the wires, then quickly attach, the fine wires, then when they are done, use Kapton tape or similar and use that to secure and support, the joins, (Sometimes I use hot glue, and lay it down in a position making sure nothing is touching etc, and apply hot glue in a bead right across the joints and it keeps then in place insulated and isolated. Anyway once you have done that, then you need to solder the other ends of the wire to where they would have gone, on the PCB. again make the connection, and use tape, hot glue whatever, and secure that too. If you are careful & have a good magnifying glass, glasses, and patience it can be done.
As an aside here could you not take the cable off from the other set you have, maybe they are the same? Then you could use that one?
You really need to get what we call a service manual, this has all the parts in exploded diagrams, schematics, circuitry etc They are just invaluable. If you contact Akai, they will provide you with one. I have searched the 'net, but have been unable to find one. In the manual there are parts numbers and descriptions, maybe you would be able to purchase a replacement, if you cannot, make or retro-fit the other one?

The screen indicates 'not support' because the resolution you are try to feed the TV exceed the maximum it can display, you need to set your computer video out put resolution the TV native resolution, which you need to find out by download the user manual here: http://www.retrevo.com/support/Akai-LCT3285TA-TVs-manual/id/741bh147/t/2/

I have a 3 year old 32 inch TV that keeps turning off and then I have to play with it for like an hour to get it to come back on. I contacted Akai and they won't respond, about to throw this inferior TV...

The problem is most likely the power supply.
The capacitors go bad.
If you know someone who can use a soddering gun, then they could replace the capacitors. Its a cheap fix,and it usus.ally work

Akai LCT3285TA Television won't turn on

the problem is in the power supply(they know about it good luck fighting them)but there is good news.you can remove the power supply and replace electrolytic caps,EC18,EC19,EC20 all of them are 1000mf at16 volt use 1000mf at25 volt.you can also go to shopjimmy.com enter model number you will see power supply part number MLT169B
it will be cheaper for you to replace the caps, the board cost about $80.00 from them

Screen powers up then goes blank after 2 seconds

Hi, was there a resolution to this? I am experiencing the same problem with LCT3285TA purchased at Radio Shack in Media, PA. Radio Shack has refused to service the unit and has put me over to Akai for the manufacturer's warranty. I'd like to know what to expect and if this problem with the Logo coming up and the unit shutting off/restarting can be easily fixed, thanks.
