This is the B & S 6 HP engine. There are multiple versions of this engine:

12H802-2682-B1
12H802-1922-E1
12H802-3172-E1
12H802-1752-A1

and several others.

The timing is fixed. It is not changeable. Timing can change if the flywheel key is partially sheared because the position of the magnetos' flywheel magnet is rotated forward or back from it's usual position. That is the only way the timing can change.

Now if we are talking valve cam timing. Align the dot holes on the crankshaft and cam shaft gear. The valves should be closed with piston at top of the cylinder.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My briggs and stratton Model 12H802 engine is hard starting

hard starting on small four stroke engines is often related to valve clearances closing up due to normal wear. Its not a hard job if your a mechanically inclined. Few small tools, feeler gauge and new gasket for the valve cover. maybe a 30-40 min job .....many youtube videos.

Engine shuts down after running for awhile

Could be a bad coil. I had a Cub Cadet that would shut off when it warmed up. After it cooled, it would start up just fine. I ordered a replacement coil from a local dealer and replaced it. It works fine now. Unless you are comfortable with mechanical repairs, you might want to take this to a qualified small engine repair shop.

What is the magneto gap for a 6HP Briggs & Stratton 12H802 series engine?

Briggs lists it as .006 - .010 on this 6 HP L-head engine. The .010 width can easily be attained by using a standard sized business card as a feeler gauge (and it doesn't stick to the magnets in the flywheel). I double up the card, loosen the coil and let the magnets in the flywheel draw the pickup legs in until they press on the card, tighten up the retaining screws (threadlocker is optional) and your air gap is set.

I recently got a green Craftsman with yellow writing "Craftsman" and ("22" Mulcher") I didn't know where to look for the model number. I found a family "YBSXS.1901VC" then "274466" it also said not legal...

You need to take the mower into a SEARS authorized store and have them show you the code meanings. Craftsman has changed a lot of their codes so for the first time this is the only way.

Electrolux Parts, Electrolux Home Products-OrderTree.com ... Electrolux Parts. Electrolux is a leading producer of home appliances and equipment.
you need to try ordertree.com
your poulan was attatched to electrolux at the time it was made
your mod# doesnt come up so when you go to this site find electrolux and enter mod#pr6y33chb
and see if this looks like your mower plus you can order from this site also if you need to.
