I shall try this however I have rebooted the phone many many times. Why will rebooting my router and modem make the screen display?

  • epn7 Sep 14, 2010

Rebooting both the router and modem did not fix the display on the phone. Any other ideas?

If you have not yet done so, reset (power Off / On) your modem / router.

Hope this helps.

The router is part of your system connection. Sometimes, resetting the router refreshes the equipment and resolves various issues. Hopefully, it will fix yours.

Is the display totally blank or is there a small colon (:) on a corner of the display ?

    If a colon, try:

    Other suggestions:

Hit * after the phone boots
Continually press * while the phone booted
Press and hold * when applying power, until the phone boots.

The Screen is totally blank however the phone is funtional with the extension I log onto it. It will make calls, get calls and transfer calls. If I log the extension out, the display shows that and prompts me to log another extension in. As soon as I do, the screen goes blank after it has logged in the extension. It is like the phone is not uploading the User settings from the phone system.

Has the problem always existed or was there a change ? If a change, was there an upgrade before the problem began ? You said that the problem happens with an extension. Does it happen calling outside as well as inside ?

  • epn7 Sep 14, 2010

You misunderstand. This is an IP phone connected to our phone system over the internet. It utilizes a VPN to make the connection to the IP Office system and becomes another extension of the system. In this case the extension number is 310. The phone boots up properly, makes the connection to the phone system and logs in as extension 310. The phone will work and it will identify itself as extension 310, however the LED screen is blank so none of the functions available will work. This is a new system and the phone was originally registered as a different extension, however I needed to change the extension number of this phone, so I logged it out of the old extension and into the new one. That is when this problem occured.

Aha. VPN, eh ? So the problem occurred after changing the extension. You obviously had a reason for doing so. I guess the question is whether you or the Admin of your system want to re-initialize this phone or leave it with some features not available.

  • epn7 Sep 14, 2010

yes, I already tried Rebooting the entire phone system. It didnt work. Unfortunately, not only does it not have those features, you simply get no display at all. No calls coming in, not name of extension or extension number. Simply a blank screen.

For testing purposes, it is feasible to change back to the old extension ?

Red light does not go out

Check that user in Manager under the "Trusted Source" tab. If there is an Hxxx, then that user is getting voicemail for a hunt group as well as the extension.
Also might look like H"hunt group name" as well.

How to change phone extentsions

You are basically setting up what extension teh phone is to use. Now you need to tell teh extension what user is going to use it.
If the phone says, no user, then there should be a login button. If there is not, contact the admin person so they can program one.
