Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

1 Answer

I have replaced several batteries because my charging indicator say it is only charging up to a certain percent. When I disconnect the power cord my notebook shuts down. I was using a 12 cell battery. I only began experiencing this when I started using the 12 cell units. What can be my problem? I am also using a brand new charger. I have an HP Pavilion DV6000 entertainment notebook.

Charger seems to have both red and green lites flashing at the same time no sequence and both batteries connected read 4.0 VDC, are these chargers repariable or throw aways

Your manual is here. The section on charging states, that green blinking means your battery is fully charged but blinking red means that your charger is faulty. I would say repairable.

1. Plug the female connector of the AC power cord (supplied) to the AC receptacle on the charger and plug in the male connector on the AC power cord into the wall outlet.

2. The On/Off LED indicator is blinking RED, this is abnormal. Unplug AC power cord from the on-board battery charger and wall outlet. Charger may need to be replaced. Contact an Invacare dealer or qualified technician.

3. When the On/Off LED indicator light is Off, charger is Off.

4. When the Charge LED indicator light is YELLOW, the batteries are charging.

5. When the Charge LED indicator light is solid GREEN, the batteries are fully charged (as their condition will allow).

6. When charging is complete, unplug the male connector of the AC power cord from the wall outlet and then unplug the female connector of the AC power cord from the AC receptacle on the charger.

Battery disconnected

I'm a bit confused, the battery is a replacement? And it will not charge? Is that correct? If so, return the battery, some aftermarket batteries don't work well, and COULD be a FIRE hazzard. Have you tried another Cord/Charger with the EXACT same power specs? Always buy a genuine replacement battery, inexpensive batteries are inexpensive for a reason. T will indicate charging but it won't charge actor

If the laptop works only off the Power Cord and the batteryis not charging, then the battery is dead.

To check to make sure the Power Cord is working remove the battery and let thelatop run for 10 minutes or so.

To check to see if the battery has any charge left in it put the battery in andremove the power cord. If it won't boot or shuts down then the battery is deadand needs to be replaced if the power cord is ok.

Battery has been charging to 100%. Suddenly would only charge to 76 percent. Now, after two weeks, will max at 62 percent. Computer is 1 year old. Can battery meter be recalibrated?

Pulled from Gateway's website:
Do not interrupt the battery recalibration process. If recalibration is interrupted, you must start the process over again.

  1. Close all open files and programs.
  2. Connect your notebook to AC power and allow the battery to completely charge.
  3. Disconnect the AC power and restart your notebook.Note: If the power cord plug.gif or battery baticon.gif icon does not appear on the taskbar, click the show hidden icons showhidden.gif button. If the icon still does not appear, verify thatAlways show icon on the taskbar is checked on the Power Options Properties Advanced tab.

  4. Completely discharge the battery by doing the following:

    1. From the desktop, right-click on the power icon, then select Adjust Power Properties.
    2. Click the Power Schemes tab.
    3. Click the arrow button to open the Power Schemes list, then click Always On.
    4. Click the Alarms tab.
    5. Click to remove the check mark from the Low battery alarm and Critical battery alarm checkboxes. Let the battery drain until your notebook automatically turns off.

  5. After the battery is completely drained, reconnect your notebook to AC power.
  6. Charge the battery completely until the yellow battery status indicator goes out.
  7. When you are ready to use your notebook again, do the following:

    1. From the desktop, right-click on the power icon, then select Adjust Power Properties.
    2. Click the Power Schemes tab.
    3. Click the arrow button to open the Power Schemes list, then click Always On.
    4. Click the Alarms tab.
    5. Click to select the Low battery alarm and Critical battery alarm check boxes.

Dell Inspiron E1505 will not power up - Battery or A/C Power

If you're not ready to take it to a repair shop, there are a few things you can look for yourself. If the power blinks for a quick second before cutting out, which means you most likely have a short. This could be as simple as a faulty power cord, so try moving the cord where it takes the most movement, to see if you can get prolonged power by holding the cord in certain ways (temporarily making the worn wire inside make contact)
If that does nothing, take a look at the mainboard itself. Look for any darkened or discoloured areas, or melted/damaged resistors etc.

Power problems Inspirion 8600-battery not charging

Most Dell batteries have an LED indicator that allows users to see how much run time and how much overall battery life are available at the touch of a button.
To check battery charge, press the button and the number of lights that appear will tell you charge status. If all lights appear, you have a fully charged battery. Each light that appears accounts for approximately 20% charge.
To check the battery health, press and hold the status button on the battery charge gauge for at least 3 seconds. If no lights appear, the battery is in good condition and approximately more than 80 percent of its original charge capacity remains. Each light represents incremental degradation. If five lights appear, approximately less than 60 percent of the charge capacity remains, and you should consider replacing the battery
if the ac adapter will power the laptop without the battery installed its fine. if the cord is fine and your battery is fine its a mother board issue and it will most likely have to be replaced

Need help diagnosing dead UPS

Very likely, "would this also explain why none of the indicator leds are working?"...the dead batteries are your problem. you can try this test, since you had it opened: 1.) disconnect internal batteries, label the wires by terminal location. 2.) connect (2) 12 volt car batteries to same exact wires that you just disconnected, noting correct polarity. 3.) power up UPS. if everything ok, then buy 2 replacement batteries for UPS. if not ok, buy new UPS after through search inside UPS reveals no blown fuses or other faults including poor wire connections.
