Question about Thetford Norcold RV Cooler/Freezer

Open Question

I have a Norcold 1200LRIM fridge in my motorhome. It started beeping and getting a "no co" code in the display. I called Norcold and they told me to contact an authorized service center. I did this and they determined it was the cooling unit. That was replaced by them and there is no more beeping or error code but the fridge is not getting cold enough. The freezer is running about 20-30 degrees and the fridge box it running at 43-48 degrees. Any suggestions? Also about how long should this fridge take to make one tray of ice? I seem to remember it used to be like 1 1/2 to 2 HRS but it is now taking like 4-6 hours. Thanks - Russell Scott

SOURCE: Refer Norcold DE 0051 not getting cold

Your cooling unit is shot, I suggest. Most likely, you've lost the R341 refrigerant. Norcold, so they can sell you another cooling unit at $500+, does not make these little fridges with a service port so you can recharge the system. Same with Dometic. Solution is to spend, again, $500+ for a new sealed unit that will fail in relatively short order (I'm on my second in five years) or buy a better refrigerator. I'm opting for a new fridge this go around (Vitrifrigo). Vitrifrigo has the needed service port.

SOURCE: RV freezer cools, but fridge section doesn't

Sir, To solve this problem, you must open the compressor area at the back bottom of the refrigerator and chek the temperature of the pressure line. If the temperature is between 55celcius to 60 than its ok. Or else you need to change the refrigerant. I suggest you to contact the service authority.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

SOURCE: norcold 682 is 0 in freezer and 50 in fridge

How about checking the R12 charge? Or you can run the fridge on propane and see if it gets colder. Which might mean your compressor is going bad.

We have a 1999 Hurricane Motorhome. What would cause a big bulge inside our Norcold refrigerator. It appears something must have been hot to make a big bubble inside the fridge. Thank you. Sharon

Contact the Norcold factory.
That may take you a while.
I suspect the fridge is an automatic defrost.
If so, they have heating coils inside the walls.
If one stuck on, that could cause that.
Type Norcold into your computer search engine.
God bless your efforts.

Norcold fridge in my motorhome

Norcold fridges are now part ofThetford one of the largest suppliers of mobile and marine products. You do not quote the model so not sure if a 3 way (gas/mains/12v) or AC/DC. The most common problem with all mobile fridges is the heater unit is faulty. Thetford have discontinued spares for a large range of norcold models. Information can be obtained on the Thetfold.com website.
Good Luck

Fridge will not work on AC mode. AC is present into fridge.

There should be a code appearing on the display. If you are not getting any 12V to the Fridge your fridge will not function. You may also want to check for any blown fuses inside the electronic board assembly. ">

Refridge not working

Even if your plugged in, you'll have to confirm you have 12Volts DC going to back of fridge at connections, behind vent cover. Is the upper board on front of fridge lighting up when you turn it on? Could you also give me model number off fridge to help guide you better ? Model # should be on inside of fridge.

Also keep in mind that these units are very sensitive to being leveled; even a minor tilt will cause them to quit cooling. These units are not equipped with compressors as are home refrigerators which are not quite as fussy as the evaporative type.

Norcold model 1200LRIM. Unable to select AC or LP mode. Auto is only option. Fridge frequently quits in Auto mode. No error codes. Display just goes blank. Battery connections are good; voltage is good....

Try to unplug it from the battery a few hours and then plug it back in and see if you are now able to select the AC or LP mode. There has been a recall on the 1200LRIM, The defect is a potential cooling unit leak caused during AC electric mode operation. Click on the link below to read more:

Error message reading NO co is beeping.

I have done a bit of google research and this code probably means "Not Cooling" Due to a power interruption or sometimes if you do the initial cool down from 12v (instead of gas or AC). There are a couple of other causes but often all the unit needs is a reset. I found some details and instructions here but they don't specify an exact model. There were other details here but they refer to pages that are no longer available..

This should put you on the right track. Just do some more googleing if these details aren't specific enough.
