Question about Riccar Sewing Machines

2 Answers

I have a Riccar 3600 & although everything turns on & properly plugged in, when I push down on the pedal nothing happens. I figured that the actual pedal was broken so I purchased a new one but the same thing is happening so now I don't know what it could be. thinking that maybe a wire is loose but I don't know what to look for or if this is even the issue. Can anyone suggest what might be going on?

I suspect what is happening is that the speed controller, is faulty, that or, perhaps as you think, there may be a wire faulty, inside on the socket. however if the foot controller has been replaced, than I would think that it is the internal electronics of the speed controller that has spiked, or damaged. This is a fairly major fault. I don't really think it's a DIY'er, however if one could get hold of the parts, then fitting a new board, isn't too hard. But i would recommend that you get it looked at by a sewing machine repair place, and ask then for a "Quote" before proceeding with any repair. This way you can get an idea of exactly what is wrong, and if it is indeed able/worth being fixed, as it may be the speed controller, but it also, could be one of a number of things that present the same symptoms, but have differing "Causes" however ALL are fairly terminal, and expensive to repair. Getting a "Quote" allows you to decide to repair or replace.

My riccar 555su machine starts sewing as soon as I plug in. Foot pedal is stationed inside cabinet by knee, but I'm not controlling it.

The pedal is stuck in the ON position. Unplug the sewing machine and try to open up the pedal to inspect it. Or try pressing the pedal a few time to loosen up the pedal movement. Good luck!.

My machine comes on but the foot pedal does not work, what should I do?

First, check to see that the cord is plugged in fully and the socket you have it plugged into is also working. Then turn the pedal upside down and check that there isn't something that is preventing the pedal from pushing down all the way. If you are brave unplug it from the wall & sewing machine open the case (likely there are some screws) you may find that there is just dust keeping it from making proper contact. Failing all that check on ebay or with a dealer for a replacement foot pedal. You have to specify brands to keep any more specific. Replacing the foot pedal is potentially cheaper than replacing the whole machine.

A model # would help. Do you have a manual? You can look for the riccar website and search the manual. If its available as download, you can use the CTRL+F function to "find" words like lock, needle, or other things that can narrow it down.

Pedal is not working?

Hi,
Worked with these machines for years - I would say my wiring in the pedal was our biggest problem. Some mis-wire or outsource problem for their company is what I think.

I would just contact them and ask for a replacement - they like to know if several folks are seeing a matching problem - I only had to pay shipping each time I needed a new pedal.

Hope you can narrow it down.
Good Luck
