Hi, I have a Roadmate 700 that keeps freezing with the last map I used for a long time. It won't locate where I am and keeps giving me directions to my last trip. I haven't updated my maps but I don't thing this is the problem and besides, everyone who gets the new V6 updates have been complaining about it. Could someone please assist me on this problem?? Is there a way to maybe reset the system? Thank you
I had a similar problem with freezing and was able to resolve by reformating the magellan drive. Hook it to your computer and go to "My Computer", where you should see the magellan listed as a portable drive, then format. After formatting reinstall your maps from the Magellan CD you got with the unit. I tried reinstalling the map without the format process and it continued to freeze. After formatting has worked like a charm for over a year.
Same problems, you have to update as far as I know and you have to update every year otherwise it will start to freeze up. It's a rip off because it's $99 a year. Does anyone know if the other GPS companies do this?

I think Magellan makes it so if you don't update your map every year it will freeze up. Mine does the same thing and they told me to buy an update for $99 last year so I did and it worked and then after it started telling me my map was over a year old this year it started freezing up again. I don't want to pay $99 every year to keep this thing working. I wonder if Garman or Tomtom does the same thing.
i use to own a 700, i advise you to get the new magellan mastreo 4000 or higher,i did my research and the magellan700 roadmate is no longer being serviced.that is what the magellan website has had showed and someone on here also has said it and they start to have alot of problems.i own now a mastreo 4000 so far so good no problems.
My Roadmate 700 behaves in the same way. I have been so disappointed with Magellan Support and am now binning my Roadmate having just purchased and been further disappointed by maps and firmware updates.
I am now replacing it with a Tomtom 720T preloaded with maps and speed cameras and ot has live traffic info. It will update automatically each time I sit it on its cradle attached to my PC/internet.
Magellan is rubbish! poor quality manfacture and even poorer support.!
Try resetting user data. At user menu, press "-" zoom out and repeat button at same time. select reset user data, it will reboot automatically, then check to see if it is any better. If not, hopefully the software came with your unit and you can re-install it.
Good luck and let me know if you need help with the installation.
