Question about Compaq Computers & Internet
If the computer screen is always black even when starting up then you either:
1. Have a broken screen,
2. Have a laptop and it is set to display only to the external monitor. Usually there will be an icon with two square shapes separated by a slash on one of the function keys (F1-F12). Holding down the "Fn" key and that function key, would be the solution if this is the problem.
3. The little flat round battery on your computer's motherboard is dead (usually easily replaceable). The computer will do absolutely nothing when you press the power button if this is the case.
If the computer is only black after the computer has started up, then the problem is either:
1. Your operating system is broken, (try reinstalling),
2. Your memory is bad. If you can get your hands on a "livecd" (such as knoppix, which can be freely downloaded and burned to a disk), you can see if the computer will run fine with that. Sometimes they even have the option of running "Memtest86". Failure of either one of these will tell you that the memory of your computer is bad.
