I know ATA disks are cheaper , but they don't last as long or are less reliable.

I do not recommend mixing SCSI and ATA .

Use one or the other , not both.

Do not try , unless your server is non critical.
If it is non critical , why bother with server , a PC will do as well.

Thanks
David

Hi JChamaleon,

Well u can install the SATA hdds in the server however it depends on the kind of controller these hard drives are connected. It also depends which generation server it is .

If the SATA Harddrives are connected to Embedded SAS/SATA controller You will have to install the controller drivers . This could be done using a USB floppy driver Press F6 during OS installation .

Note : Depending upon the kind of controller, drivers can be downloaded from the HP website . if it is a adaptec controller check during the POST what kind of controller it is ( It might says SAS1068 during the POST) and check for the same driver in adaptec website .

Following is the List of ML350 Series servers and their base model controllers :

Note : these server has optional controllers as well which can be found in the quick specs. Just google quicspecs <ML350 G5> you will get the info .

How to installed xp2 in server hp proliant ml 350 my hard drive ok

You may need raid controller driver for HP proliant ml 350. Copy raid controller driver in flopy disc, insert it in flopy drive, insert cd in cd driver, boot server from cd and start installation process, as soon as you see Press F6 if you need to install third party scsi drivers or raid controller, press F6 and follow the instruction. It will then ask you to select RAID driver file and then will continue to windows xp installation.

I am unable to instal windows server 2003 on HP Proliant ML150 G5 because it gives me message no hard drive found

Option 1 (HIGLY Recommended): HP servers should come with an install disk that prepares the windows installer for you. Boot from that disk, tell it your OS, and pop in the disk for the OS when prompted. It will come up fine and have all the HP monitoring agents installed.

Option 2: Load the driver the old fashioned way. Unless you have a floppy drive the standard "Press F6 to load drivers" trick won't work. If you do, then you'll need to put the RAID driver on the disk.

Option 3: Use an installation customizer like nLite to pre-add the RAID driver to the Windows 2003 installer.

Good luck.

You need to press F6 and load special drivers for your disk driver card
See which disk adapter your server has and get the drivers on a floppy disk

ProLiant DL160 G6 Server, Part Number 593352-B21, Serial Number USE029N5Z2. The system fails to power on. The power supply has the LED light green. The start button does not turn amber. Do not...

ProLiant ML150 G6 and DL160 G6 (HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID) does not support more than 4GB memory, (2GBX2 modules) or more added, it works fine with single 2GB module. Boot OS with single module and upgrade system Rompack to the latest version then upgrade B110i controller driver to 6.8.0.32. Shut down the server, add additional modules. It will work fine.

Problem with harddrive

It could be because the disk is not a part of any array. Log into the server and go to the array controller utility from HP and check for any unassigned disks. It will be displayed there rather than the diskmanagement window.

HP Proliant ML350 G5 wont boot ,just spining.

The G5 Series is fairly new, if you're within warranty, call 1800-okCompaq.

Could be a bad cable, a bad monitor, or bad computer hardware. Any display at all or any beep codes?

On the back, the ml350 G5 will likely have an additional Network interface jack-- this may be labeled ILO. The ILO network connect allows you to use another PC on the same network to access this system (like a remote control via VNC or RDP) even if it won't power up--literally. Inside the ILO page, (you'll need the IP address of the ILO, the default account is administrator, and the default password is listed ona paper tag attached in the rear or on a sticker. If you can get into ILO via web browser: https://ipddress of ilo, you can check the Integrated log, which can shed some light on any failures.
