It is the wireless router that needs to be configured to set an SSID, an encryption-level (use 'WPA') and a password/passphrase.

Configure the router, and then use those settings to configure the wireless adapter on your netbook.

I think I am having a similar problem. I have the Sylvania 7" Netbook with Windows CE 6.0. I have a Clear Hot Spot Device (which I am using on my full size laptop now, so its working). The mobile device recognizes and says it is connected to my Hot Spot, but when I try to open a page, it cannot be displayed. Clear tech support suggested I call digitalgadgets (maker of the netbook) for advice to configure the netbook, but they have been unavailable. I need help. I went on their website and it said to download the WiFi Patch (RT2870.arm.CAB file), but I don't know what to do with this? Any help?

Can't get on the internet have sylvania 7" netbook.

t is looking for a password (WiFi Network Key) You have to double click on the little computer icon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. The red X indicates that it is NOT connected. When you double click on that icon a window called RT28701 opens up, then you click on Wireless Information tab, then you cursor down to the name of your WiFi and high light it and click the connect box. Then another window opens up called Network Properties. Uncheck "The key is provided automatically" box. This will allow you to type in your "Network Key", the password that protects your network from outsiders. This "KEY" was set up when you installed the router on your server computer. If this does not work at first, turn the machine over on it's back and using a toothpick, insert it into the little hole about an inch diagonally from the right corner of the data plate, this will re-load a new copy of everything including the WiFi RT28701 driver.
sometimes this driver gets confused. See my TIP at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r7350901-fix_synet07526_wifi_flashing

You can take the SYNET07526 out to a McDonalds, they have a open wirless network that does not require a password and it will link up allowing you to surf the internet.

You could also ride around neighborhoods and see if you can pick up any networks that are not protected. This is refered to as War Driving.

My 7in sylvania will connect to other connection away from home, but won't connect to my wireless at home

You have to click on the WiFi button and make sure that you turn it on, and what is left is Turn Off button.

Wait for the little computer icon in the lower right corner to show two radiating side waves with a red X under the icon. The red X indicates that the WiFi has not connected. double click on the Computer icon and a window opens up with RT28701 as the header, with all zeros in the fields.Click on the tab Wireless Information. and a new window opens up. Look for the name of your home wireless network, and double click on that name. another window will open up called Network Properties and you will see some entries, with the name of your network as the SSID. go down to the key box that says The key is provided automatically, and uncheck that box. At the long box that says Network Key type in your code for the network key. This code was assigned when your network was set up to prevent someone else from accessing your network. When you finish, check the box The key is provided automatically and from then on your machine will connect automatically because it will remember your key. See:

from another computer, go to the routers configuration screen and make sure the status shows that it is connected to the internet. Also the routers internal LanIP address must be 192.168.1.1 for the netbook to work.
