SOURCE: Dryer motor just hums
Sounds like the belt has been stretched and is not letting the motor turn the drum. If the motor is not turning at all then your motor is burnt out and needs ot be replaced

I'd sure start by making sure the belt isn't broken. You can usually see the belt with a flashlight after accessing the panel (some are in front, others in the rear) - don't go probing around bare armed without unplugging the unit....

either the belt is broken that turns the motor or thr idler tension pulley is bad, if it were a motor problem the breaker most likely will trip

Sounds like a weak motor. You'll have to get a new motor installed. They are fairly inexpensive and easy to install yourself on that type of machine if you are handy. Motor is located in the bottom right of the machine, attached to the drum belt through a small pulley underneath the drum next to the motor.

My drum would not turn. Upon further inspection, I realized that it was cracked (split, fractured, etc.) in the back of the drum. I could pry it together and then it would spin briefly, but would get stuck again.
