Skycaddie turns on by itself

From time to time, my new skycaddie SG5 will turn on without anyone hitting the on button. If you hit the on/off button, it says that it is powering down, and actually does power down for a few seconds, but then powers up again by itself. No additionl buttons were touched. I also found it powered on while charging even though I had left it in the off mode. The unit eventually times out and turns off but may turn back on by itself at any time.

yes i have this issue as well. skycaddie called me because i wrote to them about this issue and they said it's designed to turn on by itself. I call BS. the lady started out by saying the power surges on the outlet sometimes cause this so she recommended using the computer to charge... little did she know, I tried using the usb on the computer and it too powers it on despite turning the darn thing off..... she says it's designed to do that. whatever... my SG2 never did that.

Often when I try to charge my SkyCaddie using the wall charger (not USB attached to computer), it turns itself on. I can turn it off over and over, but it will always turn itself back on immediately after shutting down. On occasion however, it will not turn on, but rather just illuminate a small red indicator above the screen. In these cases, when it is fully charged the indicator turns green. My problem is, I want it to work that way all the time! I've submitted a support request with SkyGolf, so we'll see what happens, but I do not believe it is designed to turn on every time it is connected to a power source.

SG5 model turns itself off during rounds after being on less than 10 minutes. Have replaced the battery and reloaded the operating system. Still fails. Also now it does not Autoselect the course any more. Anyone else having similar problems?

You can solve the problem of the unit turning on automatically during the re-charge process by doing the following: Open the flap on the bottom of the unit where you plug in the recharger adapter. Blow vigorously onto the unit in that area. This will loosen little dust gfragments that accumulate and it will work fine. I ran into a Skygolf person at a Golf Fest locally and he told me to do this and it worked!

Support reps are paid by their company to KNOW what their device and software can and can't do, does or doesn't do, so if you need support why call them and argue or doubt their assistance. This is what's wrong with over half the people who need/require support.

Your SG2 did not do this, because one, the SG2 DOES NOT have a backlight feature. All SkyCaddies however, do have the ability to power off automatically, and those power off times can be set by certains intervals, within the device. Once turned off, you will need to power it back on, it's that simple. Also, IF your device is plugged into your computer or is charging, it may power on, you are not losing power when this occurs.

Lastly, as a consumer, we want to buy something and have it WORK, bottom line. But there is ALWAYS the possiblity that the device has a problem and may have to be sent in for a repair or a look-at if all troubleshooting is exhausted and the issue is not from user error.

My sky caddie sg5 won't charge thru the usb or power cord...any ideas???

Hello there,
Since you have tried charging the device using the usb and the power cord. It is quite clear to know that the problem is from the device connection port. It is bad and need to be replaced.
But you need to Try to test the battery in other devices then try to charge it there to see if it will hold a charge. If the battery holds a charge there, then it means the battery is okay and if it does not charge. Then it means the problem is from the battery. It need to be replaced if so.
Then test the charger/ power cord on another device if it is not bad, then you test the usb cable also. After running these test. You will be clear to know if it is the connection port. Then replace the connection port once confirmed to be the problem. Hope this helped. Goodluck Elect_Comp

Sky Caddie SG5 will NOT turn on

Hi David
I know this is some time after you posted your question. I had the same problem with mine and was ready to throw it in the bin.
Searced the net and someone had posted that they bumped into a Skygolf rep who suggested lifting the charging flap and blowing into the hole.
I thought he's having a laugh, but guess what it worked.
Good luck if you've not already fixed it.

I think there is a way to reset the unit by holding down one or more buttons while turning it on. This varies from brand to brand, read your manual.

Installed new battery and still shows low battery after 2 holes and 24 hours of charging

if all cables on battery are clean and tight, then most likely it is the alternator putting out a low charge. test the alternator it should be at least 14 or a little more when running. 12.5 to 13 when off. if alternator is ok, then check all wiring from alternator to battery, and make sure the battery ground is ok!! best of luck carl,
