I missed that in the instruction manual. Where did you read that in the quick setup?

  • whitec5 Sep 12, 2010

OK I guess I should back up. I got the router for free it didnt come with the software or user manual. It did work for a while now I cant connect to the internet through it. I got the idea for the reset button from a friend.

I can get online just not with the router hooked up. When I connect the router I have no internet access.

  • dennis_parso Sep 12, 2010

Why don't you do yourself a favour and throw it in the bin and buy a new one on Amazon with all the software, disc and instruction manual.I don't trust the people who sell things for free, nothing is free,it was obviously faulty to start with.I'd be very suspicious if someone sold it to me for free, unless I knew the person well.

1. RESET both the modem and router by unplugging them from the wall outlet for 30 seconds.
2. Power them ON again, and after 2 minutes check the connection.
3. If not OK, connect a computer directly to the modem, reset the modem and check the connection after 2 minutes.
4. If not OK, check your cables and if these are OK, call your ISP for your status and line quality.
5. IF OK, check the Powersupply of the router.

I hooked up everything right modem to router, router to computer. but i still cant get internet to my computer. if i hook my modem directly to the compiter it works fine but not through the router

Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) limit you to *ONE* unique computer connected through the cable-modem (or DSL-modem).
Turn the cable-modem off.
Turn the router off.
Connect the cable-modem to the router, via an Ethernet cable to the 'WAN' port on the router.
Turn the cable-modem on.
Turn the router on.
Connect, via an Ethernet cable, from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to your computer.
Restart your computer.
You should be OK.
If not, telephone your ISP, and get them to trouble-shoot from "their" end towards your end.

Cant connect to internet using the ethernet cable on virgin broadband

OK find a computer thats already connected to it, and match everything to it except the ip address, if you don't have another computer connected to it go to the routers settings and pull up all the info about wep, dsn servers, write it all down then write everything in the security settings of local network then you should get internet.

Cannot connect to my wireless router

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, it works .
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.
It is very easy.

  • make sure that the modem has internet when connecting directly to the PC.
  • or else call your ISP
  • if internet is ok, check the cable from modem, is connected to the WAN/internet port/isolated port of the router,
  • then the PC is connected to any of the 4 ports of the LAN ports of the router,
  • then call your router brand manufacturer support to configure your router if the connection still to configure your router to get IP address from the modem

Internet wont work thru my Linksys BEFSR41 Cable/DSL Router W/4 Port Switch.....can i fix it or do i need a new one?

hi there, you need to configure the router first to connect over the internet.

checked if everything is properly connected, modem-router to the computer, checked the lights on the router and the modem as well if it is properly lit up.

if your ISP(Internet Provider) is cable then you need to clone the mac address of the computer, if you are running DSL, you need to input the username and password of your account from your ISP.

Accessing the router setup screen, open IE and type on the address bar 192.168.1.1 then nothing for username and password is admin.

on the setup screen you will see there Internet connection type, by default it is automatic configuration if you have cable connection as your Internet then leave it that way and look for mac address clone sub tab.

if you are running dsl for the Internet connection type you need to put PPPoE and input there your username and password from your ISP. then in everything you do you need to save the settings there.

tell me if it

Speedstream 4200 and Linksys WRT54G router

there are several types of patch cables, but basically there are 2 general types: one for servers (they keep the websites) and for computers.
the servers need to communicate with each other in order to be in sync. so some cables are switched in one end.
The computers just want to receive and send data; it does not care about sync.

I have everything connected but it will not connect to the internet.

Hi loveyou,

Can you provide some details about your setup? like the name of your ISP? if it's cable or dsl? brand/model or your modem and or router, and operating system of your computer (windows XP, vista, MAC)

you may want to start to check if you have properly connected your devices (cable used, port). If the connections are ok, check the LED lights and settings on your modem, router and computer (if you need to setup PPPoE on your router or computer if on DSL or do MAC registration or cloning for cable service.
