Question about HP LaserJet 2605dn Printer

2 Answers

My HP 2605dn had the magenta fade issue. I cleaned the mirrors, etc., put it back together, and the magenta works great. BUT, it no longer prints any black whatsoever. CMY all work fine, are perfectly aligned, and consistent across the page. The test page shows nice horizontal lines (except K). I did a hard reset (starting with both arrow keys pushed); that did not help. I took it all apart again and played with the alignment of the laser assembly - no black. Checked all wiring and can't see any issue. The HP brand black cartridge is almost new and shows as full on the front panel (and is recognized as HP); it worked fine before the cleaning. All the other cartridges are essentially new as well. What can I do to get the black working again?

The 2605dn does not appear to have a "Disable the Cartridge" option. Is there another way I can test the black cartridge?

  • research_adv Sep 12, 2010

Indeed it was the chip in the cartridge. Thanks so much.

The advice of nonontech was right on. I was back up and running a minute after getting his answer.

If it doesn't print any without a reason, and as per you described here, it seems the cartridge doesn't receive any power input. Give it a slight shake try again. I hope you still have the old cartridges, if so, remove one of the Chip and replace it on the new cartridge, (any chip on any of the cartridges will do). As you know, this problem is very common with Laser cartridges, but the only thing we can do is swap the chips, or replace the cartridge. You can also try with the old black cartridge (if it has a small ink) you be able to find out the culprit, whether the printer or the cartridge).

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

The Magenta colour on my 2605dn is no longer coming out properly (very faint). The cartridge was replaced by made no difference. All other cartridge colours work fine. Tried cleaning and calibrating but...

A faded magenta on this model is probably a dirty scanner mirror.
The printer design puts a fan in an area that blows magenta toner directly at the laser scanner.
The more toner on the mirror, the more faded the print.
You will need to remove the scanner and clean it.

My hp 2605dn doesn't print red very dark even though the toner cartridge is full

The 2600's and 2605's share the same problem.
The scanner has to be removed and cleaned because magenta toner builds up on the laser scanner mirror.
You need a service manual.

My Hp Color laserjet 2605 was not working some colors (yellow, megeanta) so how to resolve this problem ? all color tones are new ! i would pinted test page black and cyan was ok

This is a common problem with this model of printer. The scanner optic degeneration is due to dust buildup on mirrors and lenses. Since the most vulnerable mirror reflects its laser beam to the magenta and yellow toner cartridges, red tones are the first to show fading. Colors shift: purples turn blue and oranges turn yellow. The printer optics will need to be cleaned by a compliant technician to resolve this issue as it means dismantling your printer and cleaning the mirrors and lenses in the optic section to fix the problem.

We have an HP 2605dn which previously worked ok but is now printing magenta very pale even on the self test page. Have tried new magenta cartridge, various cleaning procedures and a firmware update but...

This is a common problem on these printers.

Cause is dirty lenses and or mirrors in the laser unit.

Solution is remove laser unit, open it, clean lenses and mirrors (very carefully to avoid disturbing alignments, and scratching).

The laser unit is deep in the printer, so it's quite a lot of work, but very rewarding when you've fixed it.

Alternatives - buy a replacement laser unit and swap and clean old one at leisure, or get an exchange refurb printer - if you think your mechanical skills arn't up to it.

This printer has stopped printing reds and oranges correctly ? they are faded. Changed the toners & no difference

Print a "Config Report" from the printers menu...If u notice that the fourth square on the left side (fourth being the bottom square) for Magenta (reds and orange) is missing or very faded, this could indicate that the optical mirrors inside the printer have to be cleaned...Design flaw. ESP..if changing toners doesn't work and your your faded issue is with Magenta (Pink, red, or orange) colours are the only faded ones...With this design flaw in the optical mirrors, magenta mirror is the first to be affected!
Hope this helps!!!! I work in the industry :)

HP 2605dn printing pale on magenta

This is likley to be the common problem (with this model of printer) of the laser unit having dirty lenes and/or mirrors.

Typically the magenta is the first colour to deteriorate.

To rectify this problem there's a fair bit of dismantling to be done in order to get the laser unit out.

Then you can open the laser unit up and clean the lenses and mirrors CAREFULLY. You don't want to scratch the surface silvered mirrors, or disturb the alignment of any of the optical components.

You'll see the same problem and solution for HP1600, HP2600, and Canon LBP5000, as they all use the same laser unit.

Hp 2605dn Black cartridge is printing 1/8" LEFT of other colors.

That problem is frequently on HP 2600 series.
You must try to change all remanufactured toner cartridges with HP OEM with no exception, the best alignment it is when you change the black cartridge and the printer make a cleaning page process. Cartridge HP OEM should be almoust empty. It Is not necesarry to be a new one. After the alignment process, you can put the remanufacturated cartridges back on.
This was work for me. 100%

Colors are uneven, too much green on the right side and too much red on the left

The internal optics are dirty. It's a known problem that HP's been ignoring.  More info is here:  http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1202453734788+28353475&threadId=1073731

Detailed instructions are on this page - look for Don Thompson's posting at Sep 15, 2007 23:38:51 GMT and click the papercliip to see the procedure. It's not for the faint of heart.
