As you're looking at the tillerpiot receptacle from the back, rotate until the "keyway" on the front is located in the one o'clock position. Your 12v power supply (pin 1) will be slightly below 9 o'clock and your ground (pin 2) will be above pin 1.

Other pinouts designations:

Pin 3= not used
Pin 4= SeaTalk
Pin 5= NMEA -
Pin 6= NMEA +

Your owners manual can be found on the Raymarine website here:

Use the drop-down menus to select Autohelm 1000+

Hope this is helpful!

Blue should be positive. Is there no way you can trace it back?

I'm trying to fix an autohelm 1000 and ned the schematic

Go to Raymarine website and look under Technical Support, Manuals and documents. All of their product manuals are listed there. If you are burning out the transistors, it sounds like you are puting too much load on the auto pilot.

St 1000 just beeps all the time no display

This sounds very much like a power supply issue.
(I've had it happen as well)
Thoroughly inspect, clean and lubricate all connections to the battery. Pay particular attention to the plug of the 1000. It has been my experience that not much corrosion is needed to render the 1000 inoperable.
If anyone requires the owner's manual, you can view/download it at the link below.

Raymarine st 1000 displays 1000 (flashing and beeps) and the actuating rod will not move

Have the same problem, sick and tired of it. It is 18 month old, had repaired once 2 months ago by raymarine, some soldered joints came undone on the board, not working again! Used it 4 times since new out of probably 20 attempts. Every time I try to use some new problem raises. Possibly just my luck. Just ordered a new Navico st 32 heard it is better unit.

My Raymarine ST1000 12 months old, started cutting out a couple of months ago and displaying 1000 them return to standby mode. The frequency of this happening has increased 10 fold. sometimes it happens...

I have the same problem. Do you have a solution for it yet?
I do think it has to do something with decreasing power from my onboard accu. The first hour(s) sailing I don't have any problems, but after a while mine is jumping to STANDBY too, and the periods between become shorter, until less then 5 minutes.

My Ray Marine ST 1000 auto tiller pilot started setting stuck, but not consistantly. the shaft just vibrates in some spots but does not move. what could be the probable cause?

the worm gear that is inside the unit may need to lubricated,, remove the bottom case and lubricate gears and shaft with a teflon or silicone based lube. also on my sailboat when this happened I found that I needed to re-calibrate the unit - take the boat out into a very calm and open water and ' spin the boat ' in CAL mode ( this will re-orientate the internal compass ).
have fun on the water and have a great night,

I need the wiring diagram for a Cooper 277W single pole switch with pilot light. The light is to be on when the switch is on. Thanks!

I have 120Volt cooper 277 pilot light switch here in my office.
Dang instruction sheet shows wiring for all kinds of cooper devices.
EXCEPT pilot light switch.

So I tested with multimeter and came up with following:
Key to any wiring device is color of screws.
Hot from breaker box always goes to dark-colored screws.
Neutral always goes to silver-colored screws.
Brass screws are for Hot wires from breaker or Hot going to Load
Green screw - ground

Yes it can be repaired. Any Raymarine dealer should be able to help you out. If you can't find a local dealer, email me: and I can give you pricing on the repair. I would need your serial number of the pilot.

Leviton Single Pole Switch with Pilot Light Model 277W Box

Depends on whether you want the pilot to glow when the circuit is live (the main light is on) or to glow when the circuit is off. (The switch can be used either way, and I have used this switch in both configurations at different places.)

The wiring diagram is on the inside of the box.

In indicates that if you want the pilot light to glow when the circuit is off, then you only need two wires (the live and the return, usually colored black and white, respectively). However, you also need a ground. The instructions say that you need the ground for safety (and probably legal code) reasons, but I suspect that, without the ground, the pilot light won't work in this configuration.

However, if you want the pilot light to glow when the circuit is on, you probably need a three wire configuration (plus the ground).

Hope this helps.
