Question about Yard Machines 11A54MC006 21Inch 139cc MTD OHV Gas Powered Side Discharge

1 Answer

My 3 year old Yard Machine 139cc started (choke out), but then began running excessively fast after pushing the choke back in. A few weeks later, it still started (choke out) but now ran very fast even with the choke in. Today, it started -- again at very high speed (choke out), got faster after pushing the choke in and then died and now won't start at all

Check the carburetor see if all the bolts are tight.check the cylinder head gasket take off plug wire make sure it is away from plug so it wont start. Pull start rope can you hear air being pulled into the engine? if so the head gasket has ruptured or head bolts came lose. Ensure all parts are tight. Ensure fuel lines are not clogged. Check fuel level.

I have a yard machine push mower that is a few years old and it starts fine but runs at high idle unless you pull the choke out

Try adjusting the spring to the throttle. This would be on the carb and what the governor attaches to. The spring will be contected to the throttle and an anchor point that you would be able to bend slightly. I would also check to make sure the connector on the throttle shaft on the carburetor is in the correct hole. Hope this helps!

Crazy question but where is the primer button on the yard machine 139cc 21" lawn mower???????

The primer button is usually on the carburator of your machine. Most of the time on the side of the carburator , but sometimes on the front of the carburator. GOOD LUCK.

My John Deere LA150 starts easily. I usually chocke it and turn back to high speed when started. A few weeks ago it would not run without smoking and missing. finally it ran smoothly. I decided it had been...

AN ENGINE THAT IS "MISSING" IS NOT RUNNING ON CHOKE, WHEN IT IS CHOKED IT WILL SIMPLY RUN AT A MUCH LOWER RPM BECAUSE IT IS GETTING MORE FUEL THAN AIR. THE AIR / FUEL MIX RATIO ON YOUR ENGINE IS 14.7 TO 1; THAT IS 14.7 GALLONS OF AIR TO 1 GALLON OF FUEL. SO AS YOU CAN SEE IF YOU ARE GETTING ANY LESS AIR IT WILL RUN FLOODED.
YOU DO NOT SAY WHAT COLOR THE SMOKE IS- IF IT IS BLACK THEN YOU ARE FLOODING, AS TO MUCH FUEL WILL PRODUCE A BLACK SMOKE BECAUSE THE COMBUSTION WILL NOT BURN IT ALL, IF IT IS BLUE YOU ARE BURNING OIL. IF THE SMOKE IS BLACK, REPLACE YOUR AIR FILTER AND BE SURE IT IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY. IF YOU HAVEN'T FOOLED WITH THE CARBURETOR IT WILL NOT NEED ANY ADJUSTING.
IF THE SMOKE IS BLUE, CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL IN THE CRANKCASE, IF IT IS OVER FULL THE VACUUM FROM THE VALVE COVER WHICH OPERATES YOUR FUEL PUMP WILL PULL OIL FROM THE CRANKCASE INTO THE VALVE COVER AREA AND WILL GET SUCKED INTO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND MIX WITH THE FUEL AIR MIX AND PRODUCE POOR IGNITION COMBUSTION WHICH WILL SMOKE EXCESSIVELY AND MAKE THE ENGINE SEEM AS THOUGH IT IS FLOODED. iF THIS DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM GIVE ME AN ANSWER TO THIS NEXT QUESTION: WHEN YOU SAY IT IS MISSING, IS IT BACKFIRING, POPPING OR SPUTTERING? AND IS IT SINGLE OR TWIN CYLINDER.

First remove spark plug wire and check that it isn't full of grass around the blade. ///Then go to filter which is on top of carburator and clean with varsol. Squeeze excess varsol out and then add few drops of oil across the top and replace back on top of carburator.///If it still acts up, then add a gas pressurative to the fuel and let it run through..let us know how you make out.

My 2 year old Yard Machine 21in 139cc MTD engine push mower won't start. I've replaced the spark plug, air filter, and starter pull cord. I've also flushed the fuel line. I've run out of ideas to get it...

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Sometimes you can get by with priming it a few times, and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower/weedeater is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, You will first seat the jet screws and count the number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns they were in/out.
Please do not forget to rate me, Thanks
Good Luck, I hope this helped

I just picked up a Titan 57 from a yard sale. but I DON'T KNOW HOW TO START THE CHAINSAW. i HAVE USED CHAINSAWS BEFORE BUT NOT A MCCULLOCH. CAN YOU HELP? THANKS.

Is the fuel full of something? Dispose of it and try this.
Fuel/Oil Mixture
  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 8oz/2gal - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (Stihl 2.6oz/1gal)
  2. Any fuel containing ethanol is not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few months. Anything over 3 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine.
Start Procedure
Cold:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws); pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls)
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws) - Don’t pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
HTH
Lou
If no joy repost with what you have done and we'll try something different. Once flooded chainsaws are very hard to start.

dirty gas. the fuel bowl likely has junk in it which plugs the jets as soon as it starts. you may get luck just emptying the carb bowl but a good carb clean and new gas will do the trick. (dump out the old gas

Yard machine 139cc will only run short time with choke

Check the float and the adjustment screw on the bottom of the carb. Usually if the float stays up it will continue to leak gas and also will only run on choke. Spray some carb cleaner in there and try to get rid of any debri also try changing your air filter or cleaning it
