This may be a CODEC issue, does the player have the CODECS to allow the unit to actually Play the DVD? You need to check. You need to check, also that it will actually Play any DVD?
Often these devices get a fault within the laser head assembly, this will cause the DVD to NOT recognize DVD's. As a try, see if cleaning the laser head with a commercial cleaner helps, if not, then perhaps the laser heads have gone faulty, a common thing.
If this is so, then you need to obtain a "Quote" for the replacement of the heads, if you wish.

Sounds like what you need to do is go out and buy yourself a can of compressed air alot of the time this error occurs because the laser lens has become dirty and a simple good blowing with some air should free up and debris that may be causing disc read errors

hope this helps

After recording a number of discs and finalizing them I checked them out on the recorder and also on my MacBook Pro computer & they all worked. Now I wanted to play them back but I am getting

Have you tried the disks on different playback units. Those laser mechanisms do go bad after a while when they lose their ability to focus on disk surface. If other machines have same issue it may be the disk(s). If not, it may be the player. check it out since you have nothing to lose but a little time.

Portable dvd player when you put disc in machine it comes up with wrong disc display on screen is it the settings

It would more likely be the types of discs used. They are either of a region code not compatible with the player, contain foreign/unknown data, or they are unsupported formats. For example, if the player supports DVD-R playback, and you put a DVD-RW in, the player will generate 'wrong disc' message if the player cannot recognise the disc or the contents on it.

The disc formats/types that can be played should be outlined either on the unit itself or in the instruction manual (if you still have it). If the player shows that message even with genuine shop-bought DVDs then there is a defect within the unit, workshop attention may be required to fix it, but it could be costly.

'WRONG DISC' usually means the disc inserted is of a different region code to the player, or the wrong format (DVD-RW instead of DVD-R as exampled above). Try using different discs before going any further.

Dvd player only plays some movies

it might be sevral reasons:
1. Check if region code is the same for movies you playing and DVD player
2. If you using video CDs or copyed DVDs, player might be preventing to playback those kind of discs, due to copyright laws or due to different speed settings for DVD player and discks you using (for intsrance you player can playback DVD/CD+R, and you using DVD/CD-R, or mximum allowed playback speed is 16 you using disk recorded at 24, but this is in case you using burned/copied CD/DVDs)
3. Check it lens is durty. For that use CD/DVD lens cleaning disk
($6 in Walmart, if you are in US)
4. Check if movies you are have the same coloring system, i.e NTSC for US
5. Check CD/DVD for scratches, some DVD players can not playback scratched disks
Please kindly let me know if my information was helpfull for you or you need more info
Good Luck

Displays "No Disc"

It can be several reasons
1. Disk is upside down
2. Lens is durty. CD/DVD cleaning disk will help
3. Disk is in different formate (for instance NTSC for US but you trying to playback disk in PAL)
4. Disk has different region code (look is the dvd player and disk have the same code, or ALL Regions code)
Good Luck

I stick in a disk and then it would read: disk error play back feature may not be available on this disk. And this disk is fine it plays in my daughters room in her 2 in 1 player. so What can I do? The VHS player works well. Help! I dont really want to buy a new one!

Dvd player will not player dvd's or cd's

When you put the DVD in, you mean it will not launch the appropriate player to start playback of the video?

Maybe your autoplay settings are messed up.

Try launching your movie playback software and attempt to manually play the disc and see if this works.

Another thing, is your drive listed under my computer?

SAMSUNG DVD R120 error EC:0207

I had exactly the same problem -- error message of "This disc can be neither played nor recorded. Please check the disk [EC:0207]" after the machine had been working fine for a year. I downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website, burned it to a CD-R disk (took three tries until the DVD Recorder recognized the disk -- worked when I used Rocio CD Creater software), then loaded the firmware updates to the DVD Recorder. On the Samsung website you can retrive the firmware update instructions as well. I had to perform the firmware upgrade several times until it successfully updated both the system firmware as well as the disk firmware. After successfully updating both, the Recorder now recognizes the DVD-R disks and I was able to resume recording. I have however, noted some choppiness with the playback of the newly recorded disks. Other than that, the firmware upgrade successfully resolved the problem.

Can't record DVDs

OK. Finally "solved" this problem. You must use the brand name "Maxell" DVD disks, 2x or 4x (maybe 8x). Do not use variable speed disks (e.g. 1x--4x) or 16x. Walmart carries these!

The DVR -RW 2x finally got mine to record. I didn't think this would work, but it did. I am still experimenting with it. Had to download (free) VLC player to get it to play on my computer. Works fine in other DVD players.

Credits to the Sears' repairman, the guy at F., and my patience!
