You need to get the make and model number off the motor unit. You must have that to get the right remote.

My remote controls only work when I am in the garage

Are you sure that the replacement batteries are good? Test them for current output before installing? How about the antenna that is affixed to door opener - is it there to receive the remote's signal?

If batts are good as well as the antenna then the receiver portion of the opener has lost gain and is in need of repair.

I lost the the remote control for my garage door opener and now need a new one. Part Number for the Garage Door Opener is 41A5021-2G

That number is the part number for the circuit board. The model number for the opener is on the other end and starts with 139. That is the number you will need to assure you get the correct remote. You can then call Sears. Odds are they will have it in stock.

How do I change the code for the door opener and remote. I have a craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener. I have door door openers and one remote with three buttons.

You cannot change the code of your remote or opener. It is set at the factory. If you have lost or have had a remote stolen and need to eliminate its possible use you can erase the memory of your opener by pressing and holding the smart/learn button for 6 seconds. That button is on the back of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Now you need to program your remote by holding the large button down while you press and immediately release the smart/learn button.

Is there a univeral remote for craftsman garage door openers?

Depends on the age of the opener. The model number is on the end of the opener closest to the door. Using it go to Sears parts and you can find out if the remote is still available.

Lost remote

Just to be safe you need to locate the smart/learn button which is just to the left of all those white wires. Press and hold it for 10 seconds and this will erase the memory of the opener and none of your remotes will work. Now you need to press and hold the button on your remote while you press and immediately release the smart/learn button. Should do you.
