Question about Aurora Electronics AS662C Shredder

Open Question

We have the Aurora AS622C paper shredder. My wife was using this appliance, and it was running proprerly. We stopped it to clean the 2 bars out. No, we did not take anything apart. However, when we restarted, the machine failed to run forward. It did operate in revers, though. Have any ideas??

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

SOURCE: Aurora paper shredder AS1200X Parts

I called them and they were no help at all. They said, in short, "We don't have parts, we can't help you, buy a new Shredder! There warranty is 30 days with receipt.
I would buy yours for parts but it wouldn't be worth the shipping charges!
If you wanted to remove the micro switch and would send to me I'd be interested in purchasing it. My machine isn't that old, so I really don't want to purchase a new shredder. I got it from CostCo last year. California.

Here is an update of the problem:

Using the shredder for continuous extended periods causes the motor to overheat in which case the motor just shuts off automatically.

Leave it for a while to cool down and resume normal usage - this should make it work again.

There is a switch inside the shredder that needs to be activated by a notch in the waste basket. Take extra care to aligh the notch with the slot otherwise the shredder will not work.

No theres the fix!

I had the same problem. I found that the shredder was not placed squarely on the basket. There is a small switch under the rim of the shredder (mine is on the back side) that gets depressed when the shredder is placed on the basket. If this switch is not depressed, the shredder will not work.
Make sure the shredder is fully seated on the basket.

Hope this helps!

How do you take apart a shredder it does not go forward

when my Aurora- AS662C shredder wouldn't go forward I assumed it had paper jammed into the blades -with it unplugged of course ,I removed 5 screws (back does not release) used tweezers to remove the jammed paper. When I initially pried it open- an off wt. plastic bar type thing fell out of it's place (on right side ) I set the plastic bar into it's place(if you look at you'll see how it set's into place, carefully closed the top making sure the bar didn't move and replaced the screws. I then ran papers through it -worked like new ! I almost bought another one and was about to throw it out ,figured I didn't have anything to loose . Best of luck -hope this helps

Auto setting will not work on Staples SPL-EXC8A

Cleaning of the paper sensors is essential. Blowing on the center of the paper insert area will clear the paper fibers near the sensor but not all. Since my shredder was way past warranty, I opted to remove the 7 screws on the back of shredder mechanism, gingerly remove the shredding mechanism from its seat and there I found, wedged in between one of the sensors, a solitary paper fiber. That ominous, evil paper fiber was wedged in so tight that even the jet engine blasts from a 747 aircraft would have not dislodged the paper fiber. Making use of a Qtip, I dislodged the paper fiber, cleaned out all remaining paper fibers in and around the inside of the housing, then reassembled the unit. It has worked satisfactorily since then.

My shreader isabout 2 years old. While in the process of shreading 2 sheets of paper (it's rated for up to 10), the machine stopped half-way through the process. The bucket was not full. It was not...

If you look under the shredding mechanism you probably will find it jammed with bits or shreds of paper. It all has to be removed bit-by-bit. The stated 10-sheet capacity is nothing more than marketing hype. In reality, feeding sheets indivually will ensure longer shredder life.

I unplugged it, took out some paper, wiped it down since there was alot of white dust and used my son's air spray can and sprayed both top and bottom of the teeth and away it went again with no more issues so far. If this doesn't work, then I will also do Bernard's fix.

My shredder makes a thumpping noise then stop. Inreverse it does the same thing. My model is Aurora AS701X-MS The motor runs but it does'nt shred the paper unless you shake the paper then it stops.

It sounds like one of the drive gears has broken. I have contacted this manufacturer before and was told that they do not make replacement parts for their machines. If it is less than a year old, they will replace the unit but that is about all they will do.

Our Aurora AS1712X paper shredder is jammed in a couple of places with paper so badly that we cannot free the jam and the tooth wheels cannot turn freely. Is there an easy way to clear the jam?

Try running the shredder in reverse and oiling the blades. More help with paper shredder oil here:

If you can't get the paper shredder up and running, it looks like you might have to pick up a new paper shredder. Paper shredders can be pretty cheap though, great guide to cheap paper shredders here:

Shredder won't stop running

You probably need to clean out some debris from the shredder's sensor. The sensor is usually a small switch that is pushed into the "on" position when a piece of paper goes through. If there is some paper sticking this switch "on", then the shredder will not shut off. You can use a small needle nose pliers, or a tweezer to get the debris out. Make sure to unplug the unit before cleaning!

Hoep that helps, good luck!
