Dvd-r "disc error"

Hi,
I taped my baby's first video on a sony handycam with a dvd-r. Any other dvd-r will work, but now that one reads "remove disc, disc error" whenever I put it in. I cannot even format it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

yes, it is compatible. I have used many others just like it in the past. This one was always working for the several weeks i was using it to record until the "disc error" message appeared.
i also cannot play it in a dvd player because it was not yet finalized.

yes it is compatible. I have used many of these before, and it is even the kind that came with the camera.

Check if the DVD can be played on a different reader, if it can, then probably the camera dvd lens is a bit dirty. In this case blow some canned air on lens and use a lens cleaning kit, then check again if it works.

Assuming camera is fine instead, there are three reasons why a dvd may result unreadable. It is scratched, defective or dirty.

If it is dirty you can clean it with cold water, right under the tap. Rinse well with a soft cloth, taking care not to scratch it, and not leaving any cloth hair or residual water, then try dvd again.
There are dirt stains that you cannot directly see, but that can affect working of laser lens, try cleaning it first.

If it is scratched or defective there is not much you can do. All you can do is trying to play it on a different device, for example a computer or a dvd player.
If you manage to play dvd on PC, or on a dvd recorder you can make a copy and save your movies on a different dvd.

Regards

If you tried to format the same dvd where you taped your baby video, and format procedure started, then the dvd is not usable anymore. This is normal, and probably you won't be able to read it anymore on any dvd drive.
Generally DVDs, and particularly DVD RW are not a very reliable support. DVD are quite good as long as you tape them and keep them stored in their jewel case, apart for playing them, not scratching them, not exposing them to sun or intense light, and to high or very low temperatures.
DVD RW can often go wrong after several recordings, when this happens you usually cannot use the defective DVD RW anymore.

See if you can transfer the disc contents to your PC and try burning a new DVD. It could be that one of the burning sessions (maybe the latest one) was not done correctly and may have corrupted the disc.

Please try this and post back with results. If the solution does not work, we can try to troubleshoot this issue further together.

BTW, please don't rate this solution right away if it does not work, as sometimes a bit of to and fro dialogue may be necessary to resolve the issue :)

Same problem as written elsewhere. DVD508 - been good for a couple of years. Lately, while shooting, got an error "Disc access error". Later, disc unable to read disc. Error code C-13-02. Tried a new disc...

Well yes you are quite right, 1000's of people all over the world are having major problem with this silly idea of DVD disks being used in movie or any other cameras, DVD is simply not reliable enough to store data on like films, I am a big movie maker, have been over 30 years now, only will use 8mm Video tape, as I like my movies to work, not end up with no movie to look at.
I hope as many people as pos call Sony as I have and tell them we want 8mm tape only, no silly rubbish media, our film are too important to us I feel.

C:13:02

After having formatted the memory stick with the cardreader on my laptop which runs on winxp I tried to use the stick in my sony dsc-p5 but all I got was the C:13:01 error message. So I tried to format it again but eith FAT instead of FAT32 which is the regular format on winxp. Now the disc adapter which I use on my desctop to read the memory sticks worked again with the stickt, my camara still gave me the message of not being able to read the stick so I removed the stick, got into the setup mode, reinserted the stick and formatted it with the camara. This worked, I hope this can help you.

Sony Handycam DCR-TRV330 Digital-8 won't calibrate tapes to be able to view

hi there. i just actually had this problem right now. and heres how i fixed it :) it had the error so i took out the tape left it ejected for about 5 seconds. then put the tape back. it read for a little then errored again so it was close. next what i did is plugged the camera in (last time this error happened i plugged in the power and it fixed it) still no fix so i took off the battery waited 5 seconds then put it back on. after that i ejected the tape again and re put it in and it worked! you could try anyone of those things. and usually they work for me. maybe it has something to do with the cameras being old.
