Use a software program such as Acronis to completely backup your existing hard drive while it is working. Then when it dies you use the same program to install the backup you made to the new hard drive.

The program will put the backup on your external hard drive and use it in the future when the time comes to reload your new drive. The programs installs usb drivers so you will have no hassle using the external drive to reload the new drive.

That program has saved my sorry rear beaucoup times!!!!!!!!

I cant get rid of my pirate translation how do i do it

Are you saying you have a pirated OS? Is your hard drive sectioned (partitioned)? What i mean, is are you running two operating systems? If so, you may need to image the Operating system you want to another hard drive, then format the physical drive in the computer in order to image the OS you want to keep back to the formatted drive. The purpose of this is to keep you from having to reinstall all your programs and files. Otherwise, just copy you documents to an external drive, then format the working drive that the operating system(s) are on, reload all your programs etc.

My laptop won't work because it says there is something wrong with the hard drive.

The first problem is that this may be a false message. Does the message lead to a request to download a program, or ask for money? If so you have a virus.
If the message comes from your operating system (I assume Windows) then you may need to replace the hard drive. First you need to copy off all your information like pictures, music and files. You may need just a thumb drive, or you may need a hard drive to put it on. You should have a backup anyway. Hard drives fail, and your files will be lost.
You need restore disk for your operating system. You may have gotten them with your computer. If you don't have them, contact the manufacturer and get them. It will cost $20 to $50.
Replacing the hard drive is not too hard, but the details depend on your specific computer. After it is installed, use the restore disks to set up your computer, then use your program disks to reload your programs. Then use your file backup to load your files back on the computer.
If all of this is too hard, you will have to find a computer shop.

I need a new hard drive for my e machine computer

Easy fix. Just get a drive with the same type of interface as your current drive (IDE, SATA. eSATA). You'll have to reload your operating system, drivers and application programs on the new drive.

The drive is easy to get to inside the computer. Just remove the power cord, remove the case then look for the hard drive sitting in a bay with cables attached to it. Remove the cables, remove the drive from the bay (it might be secured by screws).

How to fix a hard disc drive

what's wrong with the disk? What needs fixing?

Are you talking about replacing the hard disk drive? It's easy to take out and replace, just remove the cover from the bottom of the laptop that is over the drive. Sometimes the hard drive might be under the keyboard or palmrest, then you have to take the laptop apart to get to it.

One you remove the drive, replace it with the same type of drive (IDE or SATA). Also you will need a operating system disc to reload your operating system on the drive. Then you can download the drivers and install the application programs.

Need to reload my drivers

Hello

To reload your drivers you will have to reload the entire operating system and here is how to do so.

Back up all of your user files, because reloading the operating system will destroy all of your data. You can use an external hard drive, thumb drive or an online backup service to save your files.

Insert the restore CD that came with your computer, then restart your PC. The computer will automatically boot and begin the restoration. You will be asked to confirm the reformatting of your hard drive during the process. The restore CD will not only reload the operating system but all of the hardware drivers as well. (If you do not have the restore CD, contact your computer's manufacturer.)

Insert the operating system CD if you do not have access to a restore CD. Shut down the computer and restart it. The computer will boot from the CD, and when the operating system menu is displayed, you will have the option to reload the operating system files. If you take this approach, you might also need to reload the drivers for your hardware by going to each manufacturer's website and downloading a driver for each device.

It sounds like your hard drive has gone south for the winter.
You will need to reload your operating system and programs.
If your unit was hit or dropped while in operation, you may have dammaged the hard disk.

How do I wipe my hard drive? It has been hit by a virus and most of the programs no longer work. I need to clean the hard drive and reload it. Do I need to format it first?

Hello,

You can perform a clean install. When you are asked if you want to reformat , say YES. That way all will be erased, and the virus also.

Hoe it helps

Gateway Laptop

This is either an operating system failure or hard drive failure. Start by reloading a fresh operating system (Vista) with your recovery or operating system disc. If you have any problems during or after the install, then it's the hard drive and will need to be replaced.
