Question about Televison & Video

I have a Coby TV3217. It has been working fine. Today I put an HDMI cable on, and the aspect ration went to s square box. How do I change the aspect ratio to widescreen?

I have already gone to the MENU and there is no option there for aspect ration - only Picture Mode (Standard, Dynamic, Soft, Personal) color, contrast, etc. Nothing for the Aspect Ratio.

  • marvin657 Sep 11, 2010

Nope. Nothing there. Across the top of the MENU screen is Picture, Audio, Time, Setup, Lock, Channel. Under Picture are the choices stated previously. I have also check all of the headings listed above and find nothing relating to Aspect Ratio or screen size.

All - Never mind. I have found the solution. It is in a category called "Zoom" under the Set-up Menu selection. However, now the picture on the screen exceeds the size of the screen. Looks like I need to shrink the picture by about 2" on all sides.

Any idea how I might reduce the pic size so it is all on the screen. I have looked in all of the menu options and can find nothing. Any ideas would be appreciated.

On few models, it is mentioned as ' Format'. Is there any format button there?

LG 47'' LCD HDTV 120Hz - Incorrect Picture Width

I just had this problem and got it solved. The issue is that your cable box is likely set to the wrong aspect ratio, so your tv will not be able to display the picture properly without this setting changed. On my cable box(Pace), you need to turn the power off to the cable box using the remote. Then hit the menu button on the remote and a new menu will appear on the screen. Change the aspect ratio to 16:9 and you should be all set. Hope this works for you too.

RCA D56W20 picture problems

More information is required to properly troubleshoot this problem. How is your television connected when you are watching HD? Do you have HDMI for this, do you have a satellite or digital cable box? For analogue are you using regular coax antenna (cable TV), or are you going through a cable or satellite box?
This could be related to the aspect ration setting. perhaps you ahve changed your aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 or some other setting. If you are connected via HDMI, then the digital signal may be "normalizing" your picture during HD, but reverting back to the other setting.

Check you video settings very carefully. HD televisions are very difficult to tweak properly.

Aspect Ratio Memory?

Problem could be the fact that you are connecting with composite cables. You should never connect an HD receiver with an analog cable like composite. It does not give a HD picture. You want to hook this up with HDMI. This might also help your problem because of the fact the native aspect ration of composite is 4:3.

Aspect Ratio not responding/always in "Full" mode

Normally, when I see this problem in the customer's home, I find the main culprit to be the cable box. The remote for the cable box may have a button on it to change the format or picture size. You may have to go into the menu of the cable box to change the format setting. Hope this helps.
