Question about Amana Dryers

1 Answer

I have an Amana LG4319w/l2 gas dryer converted to Lp gas. The ignitor comes on but will not ignite the gas. Theis happened before and the technician replaced the ignitor and said the ignitor must dray a certain amount of current to allow the gas valve to open. How do you test to determine this problem? If it is the thermal protection unit that is defective will the unit be open or closed circuit? Any other area that I should look at?

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

My dryer is not heating up I cleaned the vback vent only cold air coming our its a gas dryer

From the picture posted, it looks like the bottom panel is removable.

If you can remove that and watch what happens when you turn it on, that will help. A glow igniter should turn on which once bright and hot, will ignite the gas.

If it glows, but you get no gas, it is probably the two electromagnetic coils that sit on top of the gas valve. There are online stores that sell them with a good return policy if that doesn't fix the problem... do you have a volt meter?

Igniter keeps going out on LP dryer

Look at the gas control box. Inside this box has a valve to open the gas so it can sustain the burner. This valve is control by the voltage of dryer sensor. This thermocouple is near the ignitor.. If this fails, there would be no voltage to open the valve. Here is how it looks like: 7f43321.jpg

You know I never thought about it but my stove you can do that with also. You can go right by the "lite" position and have gas coming with out it actually lighting and I have seen other stoves that are like you said. So I would say that the serviceman did everything correctly. It is up to the user to be responsible and make sure that the stove lights in a timely way when they are using it.

Hi, You will need to change the coils on top of the gas valve. If the ignitor glows but the flame doesn't come on, this is your answer. It is a very common problem with the gas dryer. If I can assist you further, please let me know.
thanks
