Question about Dell Inspiron B120 Notebook
"move the laptop" is pretty much a dead giveaway that it's the DC Powerjack, just as you suspect. Even though it may not seem loose, its interior connection on the board is probably just enough compromised to cause the lack of power supply.
I used to solder these myself but now send them out to several different vendors on eBay without problems. Of course, your issue will be whether to spring for the 80 to 100 bucks for the jack replacement or move to a newer rig.
