Sounds like it has an audio chip or voltage regulator heating up and going out.

Handheld Radio Shack CB radio TRC-230 I can hear people but no one can hear me

First, lets make sure that the unit does transmit. Get a power meter and see how much power it transmits. If no power is being radiated, you need to have a technician check out the unit.
If you have power then pick a less crowded time to test out if anyone can hear you. Other people with more powerful equipments can only be a problem when you are transmitting on the same channel and both of you happen to transmit at the same time all the time. Chances are remote that this is your problem. Good luck. es

How far will a cobra 19 cb reach

This is a tough question with many variables power, antenna, weather, terain, other radio traffic and interference on channel and reciever sensitivity.
The answer/guess roughly 2-8 miles depending on best and worse conditions.
This is one of your lower end cb radios but has a good receive sensitivity of the money.
This might be a good resource for any other questions you might have http://www.advancedspecialties.net/cb-radio-faq.htm

Be aware that most cb radios that Truckers talk on are actually 10 meter "export radios" that are illegal by FCC standards. They put out far more than the legal 4 watts that radios sold in the US as cb radios do. This is not to say that your typical cb is not modifiable to high rf power levels but not to the degree that the exports are.

My CB radio will stop working and display 88. After a period of time I can turn it back on and it will work. It is acting like it is overheating.

your SWR is too high. Your antenna is not tuned. You are hurting the radio. When the antenna is not tuned, the RF energy does not leave the antenna, but bounces back and hurts the radio.

29 LTD CB Radio: Calibrate cb radio...

The CAL is to calibrate meter for reading SWR (standing wave ratio) which is reflected power when transmitting back to receiver(radio) from antenna system.
This CAL switch position when selected and mic keyed uses the CAL knob to align the meter needle with inverted red triangle next to cal on meter. Then when you select SWR switch position meter will display accurately when mic is keyed for that channel. Now notice the difference when you go between channels 1 and 40. The ant led light will act as idiot light if it is not lit then you are most likely safe to transmit.
I say system because your vehicle, antenna and coaxial cable are all part of this system. When you have a high reading and have to trim you antenna this is really calibrating the antenna to the vehicles body which acts as a ground plane.

No cb signals from new units

Good power supplies and good quality coax is important also.
Check SWR too.

Get a External SWR meter:
with the switch in FWD position, key radio and use the CAL knob to set the meter so the needle is just touching the end of the red area on the right-hand side of the meter.
Once calibrated, unkey and switch the switch to REF and key up again. The lower the reading, the better. Check the SWR on channel 1 and channel 40. If the SWR is Higher on 40, the antenna needs to be shorter.. if its higher on 1, then the antenna needs to be longer. Assuming the antenna is adjustable, of course.

I can't xmit or receive on CB channels: Wx channels come in OK. I had a bad WalMart Special mobile antenna which shorted out because of corrosion. Now have a Diesel 15 inch mobile with tunable SWR tip....

If try another mic and see if problem is still
there then you have half of the problem, the
TX an RX all go through the mic if mic good
you will have to go inside of the unit.
Good Luck

How do you program in the frequency

There is no programming on this radio. With power and an antenna connected, turn the power on and you should see a channel number in the display. Turn the volume up about 1/4 of the way, and turn the squelch down. You should hear either transmissions or noise. If all you get is silence, the receiver section is "fried." If the unit does not power up at all (no lights/displays at all) then you most likely have a blown fuse - a simple fix.

Cb radio

You may be generating a harmonic from the cb that is picked up by the radio. Check if different channels and if AM/FM act the same. Also if a cd unit, does playing a cd produce the same effect. If all stations and the cd player do the same thing, interference is most likely coming in on the radio power or ground leads. You can get an inline noise filter from radio shack: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103979&cp=2032058.2032230.2032273&parentPage=family
or you can make your own if you have an old computer power supply by using the toroids if you can get to the power supply lead. Make sure the radio housing is electrically connected to ground. The interference may also be coming in on the radio antenna. Try moving the cb antenna away from it if possible, or test by rotating the cb antenna to a horizontal position temporarily.

Maxon Model MCB10A

In order to test this unit you will need a power meter with a dummy load. connect the power meter and turn on the unit, key the microphone and look at the power meter it should have a reading of < 4 watts PEP unmodulated and = 4 watts PEP modulated. If you do not have this reading the RF transmitter in the CB might be malfunctioning. You will need a RF generator, a power meter with dummy load, oscilloscope and a multimeter to troubleshoot this problem with. If you do not have or do not know what this equipment is or how it works, please take your unit to a CB repair shop. Thank you, Shuttle83
