It appears that the remote is needed to reset the lamp timer. While it may not be possible to get an original replacement remote there are substitute remotes available from http://remotes.com/store/nec/7n900521.html They have the all important HELP button but with substitute remotes you can never be 100% certain that it will solve your problem. However they do offer a 1 year money back guarantee so I'd say it's your best chance.

I can't figure out how to replace my projector lamp for an NEC VC 670 projector. A little help please?

You need to use a phillips screwdriver to first snap off the cover on the bottom and then undo the 2 screws holding it in. The manual is here ( page 53 ): http://www.projectorcentral.com/pdf/projector_manual_2522.pdf

NEC VT670 - Lamp won't light. Replaced with new lamp, but gives same error. The manual says to wait a minute and then turn on the power again, but this does not work.

I have the same problem. The lamp appears OK. but she isn't coming on. It seems like a problem to start the lamp.
Did you find a solution?

Replaced the bulb yesterday- the projector does not recognize the change- getting a default message to change it... And there is a strange smell (we also changed the filter (after 5 yrs)

copied from manual
select the menu - default - clear lamp hour meter to reset lamp usage hours.
Note when the lamp exceeds 2100 hours (3100 in Eco mode) the projector cannot turn on and the menu is not displayed if this happens do the following while in 'standby' to clear values for Remaing lamp Time and lamp hour meter for vt670/470 press the help button on remote control for a minimum of 10 secs When the lamp clock is reset to zero the lamp indicator goes out.

Nec vt670 projector , displays "the lamp has reached the end of its usable life.please replace the lamp" the lamp and filter are fine how do i over ride this error

Typically you will need to replace the lamp. Do not try and squeeze the last hour from the lamp as there is now a chance if the lamp will shatter and scratch the mirror and lcd block rendering your projector with a permanent scratch when projected. If you already have a new lamp fittted then simply go to the menu setting, under installation or setup by memory and there is a reset option. 250V T6.3AH Slow Blo Fuse

Depending upon the way in which the lamp finally smoked, it is not unusual for the feeder fuse to blow. Replace the fuse and try the projector. As long as you haev a new lamp, it should work OK.

NEC VT670 Blown Fuse

Hey SithPitt,
sorry I can't help you, but maybe you can tell me where to find the fuse. I opened the projector and have problems to find a fuse on a first view. The suspected place near ON/OFF is well shielded.
