Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

SOURCE: Kenwood KRC-x858 stuck halfway between closed and open

have the exact same problem. I called the Kenwood tech line and the tech reported that the ribbon cable2_bing.gif is probably broke. It is the flex cable between the head unit and the rotating face plate. He said it's not an expensive fix but we would need to mail it to a service center if you're like me and not near one. I just replaced mine with a new unit. It was about time anyways.

Replace the regulator. It comes with the motor. The plastic piece you found is because the regulator is misaligned, You can mess with it and realign it. Makes no difference. It misalign again. Been there , done that. replace it and forget about it. Or close it and seal the top of it.
