Hi.How can I resolve auto alignment error 1105 on my dell 928 printer.Every time colour is printed there are white stripes right through it.thanks.

    Hi.Thanks for your help.I had reported this problem to dell tech. support some time ago and they sent out a new cartridge but problem remained the same.They concluded it wasnt the cartridges but the reading head (colour) on the printer.The printer was only about 18 months old with relatively little work done when it started doing all this.It was out of warranty so dell reccommended a new printer.I just thought there may have been another solution.Thanks.

As you will see at the end of the thread, Dell ink cartridges are water based, and can start drying out after a period of time. Some have had success using a lint-free cloth and water or alcohol to loosen up the dried ink, so you might try that. Otherwise, new cartridges might be in order. If your cartridges are good, you will have to contact Dell Support or obtain a service manual for the printer, to further investigate the problem.
Also, I just read on this blog that the cartridges have a sensor on them that cannot be reset if the cartridge is refilled:

Automatic Print Head alignment failed
Possible causes are as follows:
6128_image_6.gif A4 or Letter-sized paper is not loaded on the Auto Sheet Feeder.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, then load one sheet of A4 or Letter-sized paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.
Automatic print head alignment cannot be performed using paper from the Cassette. For automatic print head alignment, always load paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.

Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, and then print out the nozzle check pattern to examine the print head condition.

For information on how to print a nozzle check pattern, see "Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern."

6128_image_6.gif The Paper Output Slot has been exposed to a strong light source preventing correct Print Head alignment.
Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to clear the error and move the printer to a darker location.
After carrying out the above measures, if the problem continues after aligning the Print Head again, press the RESUME/CANCEL button to clear the error, and then perform manual print head alignment. For details on manual print head alignment, see "Manual Print Head Alignment."

Dell photo 928 will not recognise the cartridges so i bought brand new ones and im still having problems it will not recognise the new cartridges and keeps coming up with error 1103 and cartridges not...


If your printer has failed to recognise several cartridges it is likely that the contacts within your Dell 928 (that correspond with those on the front of your cartridge) are dirty or damaged. I would recommend removing the cartridge from your printer and cleaning the contacts with a piece of kitchen tissue or another non-fibrous tissue. If you are feeling brave or are otherwise ready to dispose of the printer you could even use an alcohol based cleaning solution.

The alignment issue however normally suggests that one or more of the cartridges is not printing correctly. I would advice taking a close look at any alignment pages printed by the printer and looking for any missing squares/images. Dell software will normally provide an example of what the sheet should look like.

Issue: How do I align the print head?
Solution: Perform a Print Head Alignment (Windows)- MX340

Aligning the Print Head Position Print head alignment corrects the installation positions of the print head and improves deviated colors and lines. The procedure for performing print head alignment is as follows:

  1. Open the printer driver setup window
    • In Windows Vista, select the Start menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Printers.

    • In Windows XP, select the Start menu -> Control Panel -> Printers and Other Hardware -> Printers and Faxes.

    • In Windows 2000, select the Start menu -> Settings -> Printers.


  2. Right-click your model name icon, and then select Printing Preferences from the displayed menu.

    The printer driver setup window appears.

  3. Click Custom Settings on the Maintenance tab.
    The Custom Settings dialog box opens.

  4. Check the Align heads manually check box.

  5. Click Send, and click OK when the confirmation message appears.

  6. Click Print Head Alignment alignike.gif on the Maintenance tab The Start Print Head Alignment dialog box opens.



  7. Load three sheets of A4 size or Letter size plain paper into the rear tray (3).

  8. Execute head alignment Make sure that the machine is on and click Align Print Head.
    Follow the instruction in the message.

  9. Check the printed pattern
    Enter the numbers of the patterns with the least amount of streaks in the associated boxes.
    Clicking the patterns with the least amount of streaks in the preview window, will automatically set their numbers in the associated boxes.

    Note:
    • If it is difficult to pick the best pattern, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable vertical white streaks.

I just replaced the ink cartridge in my canon printer and tried to print something. A box came up saying the alignment may be off and I need to print an alignment page. How do I do that?


Hello. To do a head alignment follow the steps below.
  1. Click Start - Control Panel - printers and faxes
  2. RIGHT CLICK on the canon printer and select printing preferences
  3. Select Maintenance from the top right tab (see image below)
  4. Select print head alignment and follow the steps on screen.

The colour is faint, a new catridge was installed


Hi there,
When printing becomes faint or colors are incorrect, even if ink remains in the ink tanks, the print head nozzles are probably clogged. Follow the procedures below to clean the nozzles.

Step 1 : Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern.
If white stripes are noticeable
Step 2 : "Aligning the Print Head"
If print quality is poor
Step 2 : "Print Head Cleaning"
if the problem remains
Step 3 : Print Head Deep Cleaning"
if the problem still remains
Step 4 : Replacing Ink Tanks.

Note : * If the ink tank replacement does not resolve the problem, contact the Customer Care Center.
* You will be alerted if low ink warning is enabled.
* When the Maintenace button on the operation panel is pressed, the maintenance mode is shown. Numbers and functions that can be selected on the maintenance mode as follows :
01 : Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern
02 : Print Head Cleaning
03 : Print Head Deep Cleaning
04 : Aligning the Print Head
05 : Reset the ink counter.
06 : "Display" or "Not Display" remaining ink volume.
07 : Date and order setting.

Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern : Print the nozzle check patterb to determine whether the ink ejects properly from the print head nozzles and to verify print head alignment. Use this function when printed results are blurred or the color is incorrect,
1) With the printer on, load a sheet of Letter paper in the printer.
2) Print the Nozzle Check Pattern.
a) Press the Maintenance button,
b) The Maintenance icon and 01 appear on the LCD.
c) Press the OK button. The nozzle check pattern is printed.
3) Examine the nozzle check pattern output by the printer.
a) Lines missing in this pattern indicate that the print head of black ink requires cleaning. Perform the Print Head Cleaning.
b) White stripes in this pattern indicate that the print head of color ink requires cleaning. Perform the Print Head Cleaning.
c) Uneven patterns indicate that the print head requires alignment.
Perform Aligning of Print Head.
d) Noticeable white stripes in this pattern indicate that the print head require alignment.
Perform Aligning of Print Head.

Print Head Cleaning : Clean the print head if you suspect that the nozles might be clogged. Cleaning the print head consumes ink, so perform print head cleaning only when necessary.
1) Ensure that the printer is on.
2) Start print head cleaning.
a) Press Maintenance button.
b) Press right arrow once to display 02 on the LCD.
c) Press the OK button.
Important : Do not perform any other operations until the print head cleaning finishes. This takes about 50 seconds.
Note : After the print head cleaning finishes, print the nozzle check pattern to verify that the print head nozzles are clean.
If the problem persists, perform printhead deep cleaning.

Print Head Deep Cleaning : If print quality does not improve by standard print head cleaning, try print head deep cleaning, which is more powerful process. Print head deep cleaning consumes ink, so perforn this procedure only when necessary.
1) Ensure that the printer is on.
2) Start Print Head Deep cleaning.
a) Press Maintenance button.
b) Press right arrow twice to display 03 on the LCD.
c) Press the OK button.
Important : This process takes one or two minutes to complete so simply wait until the Power lamp stops flashing.
Note : After printhead deep cleaning finishes, print the nozzle check pattern to verify that the printhead nozzles are clean.
If the printhead is still not clean after the second deep cleaning, replace the ink tank.
If ink tank replacement does not resolve the problem, the print head may be worn out. Contact the Customer Care Center.

Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Aligning Ink Cartridges Your printer automatically aligns the ink cartridges when they are installed or replaced. To verify your ink cartridges are aligned, you can print an alignment page. After you close the printer unit, press the Menu button. The alignment page begins printing. During printing, the operator panel display reads Alignment Page Printing. When complete, the message reads Auto Alignment Complete. Your ink cartridges are now aligned for optimal print quality.
You may also need to align ink cartridges when characters are not properly formed or are not aligned at the left margin, or when vertical or straight lines appear wavy.
To align the ink cartridges:
  1. Load plain paper. For more information, see Loading Paper.

  2. Click Start® Programs or All Programs® Dell Printers® Dell Photo AIO Printer 922® Dell Printer Solution Center.

  3. Click the Maintenance tab

  4. Click Align to fix blurry edges.

  5. Click Print.

The ink cartridges align when the page prints.

Maybe an obvious answer, but have you cleaned the print heads several times? You can also remove the cartridges, remove the entire print head and clean it with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip.
