Windows firewall can not change some of your settings error code 0x8007042c

HI Veera,

This is an error when some crucial Firewall services are not running. Make sure that the following services are running and are set to start automatically:
  • Windows Firewall (MpsSvc)
  • CNG Key Isolation (KeyIso)
  • Base Filtering Engine (BFE)
  • Firewall Client Agent (FwcAgent)
Read the following Microsoft article KB2530126.
The batch file mentioned in "Method 3" can be downloaded here.
Just save the file, unzip it and run the batch file by double-clicking. It will start the services and set them to autostart.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

"Project1 has stopped working"

The issue definitely is associated with Norton. I have Norton Internet 2009. To get rid of the error, the following needs to be done.
* Right Click on the Norton Protection Center Icon from the system tray
* Select Norton Internet Security
* Click Settings
* Under Basic Security, click Auto-Protect
* Click Configure
* Under Real-Time Protection, take the checkmark off "Turn on scanning for Micorsoft Office documents"

Internet connectivity

TCP/IP network transport not installed

Symptoms: After you run Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) or other anti-virus/spyware/adware software, 1) you may receive one or more of the following interactive error messages:

Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer. Error 10047: An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used.

or

Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?

or

This application has failed to start because SPORDER.dll was not found.

2) Third-party networking products may not function correctly.

3) Computers may not be able to connect to the network because they cannot obtain an IP address.

4) You may receive the following error message when you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer:

Error 404: Page cannot be displayed.

Cause:

There are known spyware programs that install layered service providers (LSPs) on client computers to gather user data. When Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) removes spyware programs, it also removes the spyware-based LSPs. However, Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) does not restore any LSPs after it removes the spyware.

Firewall settings

This usually happens due to missing or corrupt SharedAccess reg key, which represents the Windows Firewall Service.
Resolution

Download sharedaccess.reg (for Windows XP SP2 only) and save to Desktop. Then double-click the file to merge the contents to the registry. The Services entry will be created. Restart Windows (mandatory step, otherwise the following NETSH command will display an error message).

After restarting Windows, run the following from Command Prompt (cmd.exe)

NETSH FIREWALL RESET

Launch firewall applet from Control Panel, and then configure your Windows Firewall settings.

If nothing helps, as a last-resort solution (before reinstalling Windows XP Service Pack 2), give these two commands a try. Click Start, Run and type:

rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection Ndi-Steelhead 132 %windir%\inf\netrass.inf

Restart Windows, and then run this command (from Command Prompt):

NETSH FIREWALL RESET

Attempt to start Firewall applet. Start the Windows Firewall service if prompted.
