Here are a couple of things to check. While the compressor is running spray soapy water on all airlines, fittings, bottom of pressure switch, regulator and drain valve to make sure that they are not leaking. A small leak will prevent the unit from reaching cutout limit. Repair as needed. Next unplug compressor and remove cover to expose cylinder and piston. Move piston to top of cylinder and check for scratches or wear neer top of cylinder. If scratched, air is bypassing piston ring and will not reach cutout pressure. If cylinder looks good and no leaks then problem most likely is valve plate/ reed valves or head gasket. Problems within head will cause low pressure and air line to tank will be very hot. Bad reed valves will also cause air to blow out of intake when it reaches 75 to 80 psi. Parts are available at or at Good luck

Why does the safety valve go off before the pressure switch on a porter cable 80 gal air compressor

The maximum pressure on most small compressors is 10 bar or 1000kpa which is about 145 psi in the old language most safety valves are set to 150 psi. I suggest you get some one to reduce the pressure switch setting. Running a compressor at elevated pressures does not give you any more air. A reasonable pressure for small compressors is 120 psi

Won't build top pressure an shut off

It sounds like your pressure switch is not set correctly. It is possible it is set too high for the compressor you have.

1 hp 3gal craftsman compressor will only build up to 20lbs pressure in tank. how much compression should single cyl have on compression stroke?

A piston in any engine should be around 100 psi I would guess. A Chevy 350 used to be around 150 psi. An air compressor that only pumps enough air to reach 20psi is obviously too low on compression. Nailers and the like need 80 or more psi. The intake valves may be shot, the unloader might be stuck or piston rings are worn.

The C6110 is an oil free air compressor and has a piston ring that needs to be replace as part of regular service.
When the piston ring is worn out it will just keep pumping but it will not go over 80 psi or so because to much ir is passing by the ring.

Here is a parts diagram:

It sounds like the piston ring DAC-308 needs to be replaced. You can also replace the complete top end.
This is a pretty easy repair and can be done in less that 1 hour.

The compressor turned on pumped up and shut off and wont start up

Inccrease the line pressure to 90 PSI, a air ratchet is a very high volume air tool and the compressor may not be able to keep up with it.

Air compress project going bad.

The 703 pump is max @ 2 H.P. and 7.5 cfm. so are you wanting to run a impact or a grinder full time from this,,, i will not keep up, but used intermittently and rely on what you have in the tank as a reservoir. The 703 is designed to run to 175 psi, so to further benefit put a regulator on the line to maintain line pressure at around 100 psi,, also something to consider if you build your own is to also make sure that your tank is certified to to at least 200 psi, safety valves sized big enough to work correctly! and on and on.

I do not want to sound like I am talking down to you but if you bought a 7.5 H.P. motor and did not know you wanted a single phase and not a 3 phase,,, makes me worry if you know enough to build one safely. my advise is to try to sell what you have and just buy one that is big enough to do what you want,,,

P.S. the Saylor-Beall pump you have is a real good pump ,,,, I am a dealer for them and they are built as good as they come!

My air compressor can pump air in but when it get

when it reaches 120 psi it will cut out usually will cut back in at around 70- 80 psi if it struggles to restart at cut in pressure it may not be bleeding the head pressure om your compressor . this is done by the pressure switch which when shuts off releases a small squirt of air under it . to solve this problem you may need new switch . there is also the non return valve to check

I have a 30 gal 125 psi 5hp air compressor and It will not pump up. I took the top off and I noticed the line from the pump to the tank was loose so I tightened it and it still wont pump up.It seems to me...

Take the outlet line off of the top of the compressor and turn on, if you feel a substantial amount of air coming out of the compressor then the compressor is probably ok.
