1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

Hp dv7-4165dx caps lock blinking, not powering up

I had the same problem with my HP DV7-4165DX. Here is the solution, although it may sound crazy.
1. Lift open the screen.
2. Take a towel and wrap it around the base of the laptop so no air can escape from the fan.
3. Turn on the laptop and let it get hot for 15-30 minutes.
4. Turn off the laptop.
5. Remove towel and power it back on. The laptop should boot up and go into Windows. This is a temporary fix - once you power it down and let it cool off, it will not turn back on and you will have to repeat the process.
6. While in Windows, you need to update the BIOS to "2013-02-26 , VersionF.29, 4.16M" Here is the link to the application:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61001-61500/sp61028.exe

7. Run the executable file.
8. The BIOS will ask you to shutdown.
9. When you power the computer back on it will run a program to update the BIOS.

Now, I tried this last night. I turned the computer off before I went to bed and it was cold in the morning. I hit the power button and it started right up. I shut it down and ten minutes later tried it again - it started right up. Hopefully you will have the same success I did.

Compaq Evo N600c Laptop over 5 years old but has been working fine. About 2 months ago the screen went dark (bad lamp?) so been using an external monitor. Turned it on this morning and it started to boot...

Do you see any lights on the laptop that are on? If you see any lights and only a black screen, then more than likely your video chip on the motherboard has gone out. Some local shops might be able to replace the motherboard it might be cheaper than buying a new laptop. Good luck

Check the power supply.Hope the notebook receives power from the battery or the Ac adapter. We need to ensure there is no issue with the power supply.boot the notebook to the safe mode.If it boots to the safemode perform a system restore. In case the notebook does not boot to the BIOS,connect to an external monitor. If we still do not get a display, its the video card

Suddenly a black screen!

If your good with computer or know some one that is, sugggest you to remove the LCD rim, and clean the ribbon filament that is connected to the monitor. Sometimes this filament get's dirty and just need to be clean from a cotton swab.
Another solution is for you to plug in a monitor to the laptop.

COMPAQ V5000 FAILURE

Hi, Try re-seating your memories. They may be located at the bottom of your laptop covered by a lid or panel held by a screw or 2. Once the memories are exposed, move the retaining clips slightly away from the memories moving sideways. The memory will slightly pop out and you can proceed to remove them. Use a pencil eraser to rub/clean on the little gold contact strips. Re-insert and lock in place. In some models the memories are underneath the keyboard. If this does not solve your problem, your next best move perhaps is to seek professional qualified services to diagnose/repair you laptop. In some instances, the repair could include video card or even memory replacement. Hop[t this be of some idea/help. Post back how things went or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
