First of all, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

LOL, I didn't know Packard Bell was still making computers. I would think they sold you a bad battery. I've purchased new batteries before that would not charge.

My ladyshave does not charge, when plugged in the green light comes on but ladyshaver does not work, any ideas.

It happens sometime. When the battery is completely drained out (even the residual charge), it takes some time to get recharge and work even if the green light is ON. Therefore let it be plugged in for some time ,from 5 to 10 mins, for the battery to get some charge. It will start working. If it does not then your battery is completely gone and you have to replace it with a new one.

Power adapter isn't charging the battery when plugged in. Comp also won't stay on since the battery isn't charged and the power adapter isn't being recognized, even though it's plugged in. What do I do?

You need a new power cord. Walmart has a Universal one for about $78. This also happened to my laptop last week and I had to get a new one because it was shorting out. Even had sparks...

Battery not charging on my X59SR, although it sais it does. I'ts 0%.

Hello a_imeri,

So the battery does not charge at all or it just shows that it isn't charged? Does the computer work when it is not plugged in? It sounds like it may be time for a new battery.

BATTERY is charged, but will not work without being plugged in

Your battery is old and worn out, even though it indicates as fully charged. The battery capacity is practically zero. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles.

You need to buy a new battery if you wish to use the laptop without connecting to the mains.

Does it work with "no batteries" - only plugged into power source? check your usb cable by trying to power up something else.

SPS1 charging system

Borrow a multimeter and check the voltage (and current if you can) going to the battery while the unit is turned off. It should still be charging the battery if it's still plugged into the wall socket. If it is not getting about 13 volts, it's not going to charge the battery. If that's the case, then there's something wrong with the transformer, or another part of the charging circuit. The downside is you can't use the unit without the battery being connected. If the unit still works and sounds good even though it's not charging the battery, then just put the battery on a separate charger every week or so.(I use the SPS1 for my computer and love it!) Good luck with it. H.
