RK549AA-ABA SR2170NX problem: i think my second slot for ram is no good. i'm supposed to be able to install 2 gb max . I bought 1gb ram to install in slot # 2 but it doesn't work. can i install...

Is the 1Gb RAM you purchase the same make and speed as the original? If not, they may not be compatible with each other or the new RAM module may be faulty.
Try removing the RAM from slot 1 and insert the new 1Gb RAM module in slot and boot up your laptop to test the new 1GB RAM module.
Installing a single 2Gb RAM module should work.

INSTALLED NEW RAM UPGRADE TO BOOST FROM 1G TO 2G COMPUTER DOES NOT RECOGNIZE NEW RAM STILL SHOWS 1G.

Make sure it is the correct ram for your computer. If you just added one ram chip then try swapping them and make sure they have a tight fit.

To test the new chip replace the old one with it and turn on your machine. If it doesn't see it then it is either bad or not the correct one.

Let me know how it goes.

Asus P4B533 gives single beep at boot after installing Corsair 1GB PC2100 double sided ram in slot 1 by itself. No problem when 2 Kingston 256 MB single sided in slots 1&2.

These motherboards, as with most manufacturers, seem to have preferences for specific makes/models of peripheral gear, especially for RAM chips. Consult your motherboard manual for compatible RAM, and proper placement in the RAM slots. Also, consult the motherboard vendor for info in this regard. They may have specific experience with this motherboard that can steer you toward the proper RAM to use. ie, it is in their interests to have satisfied customers for repeat business, by supplying peripheral items that function reliably with the motherboards they sell. Don't delay, since this technology, and the items that stores carry change at an ever-faster pace. Also, don't cheap out by using RAM of questionable fit for this motherboard.
Please feel free to get back to me about your situation.

T2742 Desktop eMacine I want to upgrade the RAM from 256 MB to 1 GB. Can I replace the single 256 MB memory board with a single 1 GB memory board? Or, should I use two 512 MB memory boards?

Maximum Total Amount is 1GB.

EACH ram slot's Maximum Amount is 512MB.

Note* If you only install one ram memory module, make sure it goes into Slot 1.

(On the motherboard it may have DIMM 1, printed next to the slot)

Slot one is closest to the Processor. The processor reads ram memory that is in Slot 1, first.

Ram upgrade issue msi 845 pro motherboard

you should check bios for the ram settings, voltage and speed, they will be printed on the package the ram came in.

also, you don't want to mix ram up, they will run at the slowest ones speed.

also, most ram is used in pairs (2 at a time) using the 3, depending on the motherboard will give you errors.

try entering the bios on boot, and set the ram setting properly. you should see something that flashes on boot, like press f8 or del for bios. change your ram settings, save and exit. type back with your motherboard and ram model numbers if this solution did not work.

Ram install problem

with RAM there can be a few problems
1) the frequency of ram which *********** board supports might be less than the freq at which the ram you are puttin works, hence in this case RAM wont work on this mother board and ull have to get the RAM replaced
2) some motherboards do not support a 2 x 1 GB RAM where as they might support a 1 X 2 RAM (if you do have 2 mem slots for ram)
and then there is the most trivial problem of the slot not being clean or arm not being put properly, i can think of ne other reason for the ram not working properly..

cheers
