You are right ,the problem is in the backlight. There's a loose connection in the connector of the backlight to inverter or driver. The backlight have high voltage supply,so if the coonector is mildly loosen,it may cause of voltage drop produce and spark and over heat the connector, and totally result of loose connection. So the things you can do to fix the problem ischeck the connection of the backlight.Open the back cover and look the board, located at the center part.It has a metal cover in the board, remove the cover and check the connector of the backlight,Resolder and tightly press the connector to the inverter or driver. It is usually happen to the backlight of the LCD TV.Just fix the connection of the backlight.Try my suggestion and procedure,.Hope it will help you..Thanks..

the wheel r on but no screen backlight) push the ON button on the side
and hold it push for a good 20 secon then releass it that will make the
unit do a soft reset and then turn it back on again it may chow the low
bat simbol just plug it back in your pc the screen will show the
turning arrow the backlight of the screen will work, let it recharge
and there you go fix.
Sounds like the flex cable has failed. I have the N1 and when the flex cable snapped, the screen still worked, but the backlight is off. Pioneer issued a recall of the flex for N1 and N2's. They will fix it for free.
