How to stop top freezer from ice ing up on (frost free) fridge HOT POINT

i recently had the problem of my freezer ice ing up on my " HOTPOINT" 18cu" fridge. i kept taking everything out and manualy de-frosting it. i got so frustrated doing this every 3-5 days so i did this : Behind the plastic cover at the back there is a coil. attached to this coil is a round silver part with wires attached to it. it is somekind of temperature sensor. this was the culprit.. here is wat i did to fix my problem.. : FIRST " UNPLUG FRIDGE" !! remove all contents, remove both BOTTOM AND TOP PLASTIC COVERS, if coil is all ice, thaw with hair dryer, if not iced up look for a SILVER , ROUND, sensor approxamately 3\4" high by 1" across. <----{ this sort of looks like a plastic bottle cap.. }CUT WIRES as close to this sensor as possible. REMOVE from coil tube.it will just pull off of coil. take care not to damage this coil or tube in the process.. with this sensor removed , just use yellow or orange wire nut and put these wires TOGETHER and attach wire nut and wrap electrical tape around wire nut and wire. put plastic covers back into place, put all contents back into freezer, plug fridge back in.. " D O N E ". its been 4months now and fridge and FREEZER work better then ever... this fix cost me $0.00 i can't get photo into here. sorry.. this process takes about 10 to 30 minutes to complete..

The fridge been loosing it cooling and freezing ability over a period of a week, the seals are in good condition and it has no other problems.

what's the brand name, model number and how old is it.if everything is running good but it's not cooling like it used to you could have a leak in the sealed system.the best way to tell is to remove the inside back wall of the freezer, look at the evap coil,if the frost pattern isn't even throughout the coil you have a leak,if there's frost just at the top of the coil and not covering the whole coil it's time for a new machine.is there any like ice or snow on the inside back wall of the freezer?if so you have a defrost problem and this would happen, also if it's a g.e. you could have a bad motor board, you need to send the brand name model number and let me know if you find frost building up in the freezer or what you see

RFA52 upright fridge freezer keeps frosting up.what is the 'normal' setting for the freezer 0 or 1?

Setting should be midrange. If the freezer is frosting on the back panel you have a defrost problem. The coils will be iced over and the unit will slow down on it's cooling. If there is frost you will need to deice the coils by removing the frezzer back wall panel and use a hair dryer to melt all of the ice. The problem causer of all this will be either the defrost timer, defrost t-stat or defrost heater. Good luck.

If you get water at the bottom of the door then something is blocking it between there and the dispenser. Usually ice. Leave the door open and cover the freezer opening with a blanket to keep freezer cold.It should thaw in 156 or 20 minutes.

Frost build-up freezer back wall

Hi, You will need to remove the rear panel and test the defrost heater and the bi-metal switch. The defrost heater is a very common problem with this model. You can check continuity on both the heater and bi-metal to detern which one need replaced. The bi-metal switch needs to be tested while it is could. If both of these parts prove to be ok, you will need to change the mother board.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Unplug the unit, open the freezer door and look through the vents at the bottom of the back wall. With enough light you should see the alluminum coil through the vents. If there is ice/frost in the vents your coils are frozen up. Remove the cover on the inside back wall of the freezer you may need to remove the ice maker as well if you have one it just plugs into the back wall there is also a plug behind the cover to the back upper left corner. Once the cove is out of the way use a hair dryer to defrost the coils or leave the unit unpluged for a while. After all the ice is gone reinstall the cover and turn the unit on it will probably work for 3-10 days and then the process must be repaeted again. I replaced the defrost thermostat on mine 2 weeks ago and all is good so far. The defrost thermostat is a little round device that snaps onto the small copper line in the upper right corner behind back cover it has 2 blue wires and cost's about $20.

Hope this helps

Fridgedaire Elite frost proof fridge part not cooling, Freezer sems fine

If the frozen side is colder than normal and some extra frost is forming where the fan blows, and there is ice in the bottom of freezer compartment, and the cool side is not cool enough, their is a good possability the defrosting unit is not removing all the frost and ice . the defrosting unit has a timer (usually near thermostat) that turns off the cooling fan and compressor and turns on a small heater around the evaporator ( about 20 minutes every 2 days) (evaporaror is cold heat exchanger coil inside the back wall behind a cover near the recirculating fan0, the fan circulates air to both compartments through two small openings, if these openeing are closed by ice buildup cool air can not circulate to the cool side. cure 1. remove all food and leave fridge off for 24 hours with doors open (take precautions to ensure children can't get locked in side and suffocate, if you get a qt of water in bottom of unit (may leak on floor) ice buildup that the defrost heater can not remove melted and was your problem . turn frig on replace food on unit. cure 2. turn frig off, remove food from both sides, remove shelves that block access to evaporator, remove cover over evaporator if you see the evaporator coils free of ice look at openings (2) to other side, one may be blocked with ice the other with frost, carefully melt ice with hair dryer.
If the evaporator coil is solid ice heater or timer or fan has failed. good luck

Freezer has layer of frost on back wall - refrigerator not working

Defrost circuit problem, the snow means that your freezer coil is not being automatically defrosted. This could be a problem with the defrost heaters or defrost timer. Also in the newer models a module
controls this operation. Call for service. Removing ice or snow from the back wall is not the solution. The coil behind the back wall is also frozen and no air is circulating.
