Hi,
Goodmans DVD Player GDVD164 can not play back HD Disc because its hardware does not support that disc.
There were few Toshiba HD-DVD players couple of years back that could playback HD-DVD Disc and now it is an obsolete system as blu-ray player taken place.
Click Wikipedia link for more details/ history of HD-DVD Disc
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Put DVD disc into DVD player but keeps saying No Disc ?

The disc player has failed, they really don't repair these since the replacement cost is low.

DISC FORMATS??will not play some disc

There are some DVD players that will only allow the store bought discs to work on their system, probably due to copy right infridgements.

My Insignia NS-WBRDVD2 will not play the HD DVD-s...why

This Blu-ray player will not read HD (high density) DVDs. The format is not the same as a blu-ray. You would need an HD DVD player. (if you can find one - they are rare.) If you are having trouble reading specific Blu-ray discs, you should check if there is a firmware update for the unit on the Insignia site. Start at http://insigniaproducts.com/ and look for downloads for the NS-WBRDVD2.

The NS-WBRDVD2 reads Blu-rays, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-R, CDDA (audio CDs), CD-RW, MP3, MPEG4, JPEG. Discs burned on DVD recorders/computers must be finalized to be played on the unit.

The manual for the unit is available from Insignia here: http://insigniaproducts.com/cms/documents/NS-WBRDVD2-WBRDVD2-CA_10-0745_WEB_ENG_V4_Final%20lr.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Shows unkown disc when i put in a burned dvd-r but it will play a store boughten disc what disc format is compadible with yhis unit

This model DVD player can play the following disc formats:

DVD-Video (Region 1 or relevant region coded store-bought movies)

DVD-R (must be finalised on appropriate recording equipment for compatible playback)

CD-R (for jpeg/mp3 media files)

CD-RW (for audio such as mp3)

music CD (such as store-bought albums)

This player will NOT accept DVD-RW/+RW discs, or Blu-Ray.

I hope this helps you a tiny bit.

I have a JVC DVD Player (XV-N670B), (XV-N672S). I recently purchased a BluRay DVD and after inserting the DVD into the player, "Disc Error" appears. Would you tell me if my player can...

Sorry to say, no; this is a model limitation not a fault as such. XV-N670B is a DVD player, and the playable formats are:

DVD-Video, DVD-RW/-R, +RW/+R, CD, CD-R/RW, SVCD/VCD, WMA/MP3/JPEG, DivX. No Blu-ray support.

The JVC XV-BP11 and XV-BP1 do play Blu-Ray discs, as they are specifically Blu-Ray players (according to the JVC website).

I have heard of quite a few Blu-Ray players allowing DVD playback. The XV-BP1 supports the following playable media: BD-R/RE (Blu-Ray), DVD-Video/-R/-RW, R/ RW, CD, USB (again, this is from the same JVC website). You would need to purchase this or a similar Blu-Ray player to enjoy the benefits it has to offer (but it's up to you if you want one of those later on).

DVDs are still good, the 'disc error' message on your DVD player is normal due to the wrong media format inserted. The bonus here is it didn't cost you anything to ask, and you don't need a workshop quote on repairs.

This is the best free advice I can offer.

We have just puchased a PD9000 potable DVD player. Will it play a Blue ray disc?

Unfortunately, this model does not support Blu-Ray discs. It supports DVD and CD playback only.

It does support DVD, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, (S)VCD, CD formats, MP3-CD, CD and CD-RW playback. It will also allow you to view jpeg picture discs as well.

When trying to play a computer generated DVD +R DL, I get a message that says this type of disc cannont be played. please insert a different disc

The disc is probably an incompatible format for this model player. Even if the disc is finalised in your PC, or in a DVD recorder, this player may still be unable to read it. Some DVD recorder/players do not recognise DVD+R (or +R DL) media, while others won't recognise +/-RW discs (except CD-RW); this is a model limitation - not a fault with either your player, the PC burning software or the discs themselves.

Nothing can be done to fix this except purchasing a model which accepts multimedia (+R/DVD-RAM etc). The question is, does your player play ANY normal DVDs? I am guessing your player will accept DVD-R DL discs just fine since this is standard as well as proper shop-bought movies.

Dvdcd player is not reading some cds and reads others

This has to do with the type of CD you are trying. Is it a VCD, SVCD, etc.? Also, some CD players will only play certain formats of CDs. For instance, it will play regular store-bought CDs, and will play CD-R discs that you have made in the computer, but won't play any RW discs like CD-RW or CD+RW discs. ALSO, some players will play CD-R and CD-RW but any + discs, like CD+RW are not compatible.
Basically all players will work with a CD-R, and usually CD-RW but the + ones are less compatible. If I knew your model CD player I could check for you, but that is probably the case. Stick with CD-R and you should be good to go.
Lastly, rarely, but sometimes, the drive may not like the disc brand you are using due to the composition used (like if the bottom is blue or greenish). Tends to be that blue or what they say is cyan discs work best. I use TDK and Verbatim branded CD-R and CD-RW, and they seem to work best.
Good luck!!
